[Discussion] I think that Valve should intervene with CS:GO case prices. Let me explain.

Small notice: If you're trying to criticize me for being naive, don't. I know it's naive to think that Valve would do something other than keep their money they farmed on poor kids opening cases... especially trying to save the game economy. I know and I still want to talk about it.
Hi,
I think that situation with CS:GO economy is bad enough to suggest that something should be done about it. My idea is that Valve could buy out, just for one time, the cases that are under a certain price (let's say, € 0.05). Why?
NOTE: If you have the other ideas, how Valve could help with the current crash, please join the discussion. If you want to talk about how Valve wouldn't do any such thing, please keep it to yourself. It's not a discussion on "how Valve will sit on their asses and do nothing as CS:GO economy crumbles".

[D] Easiest way to track your case investments using Google Sheets

Hello everyone. Hope you're doing great. I have recently learned Python and have coded a bot to automatically update CS:GO case prices on Google Sheets. This Sheet is auto updated every 30 minutes. This in no way is a Real-Time tracker but serves as a proxy for the same. Currently the sheet supports USD and INR only. I'm not currently planning to add more currencies due to Google Sheets API restrictions.
Link to the google sheet with all case prices : Google Sheet Link (All Cases) Updated Every 30 Mins

  1. Make a new sheet on Google Sheets.
  2. Read this small page that tells you how to import a cell from another sheet (Using IMPORTRANGE) in real time.
  3. Example : Google Sheet Import (Example) (Check cells C2,C3,C4,E2,E3,E4 for the IMPORTRANGE formula example)
  4. Import the cell that you need from the ORIGNAL LINK in your own sheet.
  5. ???
  6. Profit.
Let me know if you find any bugs or want to suggest any improvements in the comments.
Disclosure: I own more than $1,500 in cases.

Trying to build my first PC for around $750. Already have a case and an old ssd. Is there anything that could be improved for this price? I plan on doing mostly gaming (R6, CS:GO, Minecraft, etc...) and occasionally some Adobe AE and Photoshop.

Here's the current build:

Why is CS:GO's case opening return rate not 95% or higher, even though the skin market is free and the community decides on the prices?

Alright, so I'm not a financial expert, but looking at the skin market of CS:GO for some months, I realized a couple of things (and I also learned about some numbers on YouTube):
  1. The market is essentially free. Everyone can make a buy or sell order for whatever amount of money. The community itself decides on the prices of skins.
  2. Not discontinued cases are theoretically "free" if you have enough time and enough accounts, because they sometimes will be dropped after a game. They still sell on the community market because some people don't want to gamble and some people still buy them, because they want to gamble, but even that shouldn't influence the return rate in theory, only shuffle money around.
  3. The only two constants are the steam trading fee (5% IIRC) and the price for case keys (2,30 € or 2,49 $).
  4. Higher prices are always better for Valve (or any other market website) because of the fees.
  5. For the community, it seems that rarity is by far the biggest factor for determining the price of a skin. When I first got into the CS:GO market, I thought nice looking skins would always perform better on the market and that lower float values would always be more expensive, because the only "value" or "use case" (if you can even call it that) of a skin is being able to show it off in game. Both assumptions were quickly proven wrong by a number of examples. Take the R8 Revolver Fade skin for example. It's one of those skins were the float range isn't 0-100% but rather 0-40%, which means getting a well-worn skin out of a case is way less likely to happen than lower float values (= nice looking), because well-worn starts at 37%. So even though a field-tested one will look way nicer than a well-worn, the well-worn one is sold for more money on the market. The same goes for the actual designs themself. Just because one skin has an awesome handcrafted illustration which probably took the designer days to create, doesn't automatically mean it's gonna sell for more money than a simple two color red and black skin. I know, it's always a matter of taste, but just look at the most expensive skins on the market and you will quickly realize that the community almost always prefers rarity over actual design.
  6. A lot of skins are essentially worth nothing. A lot of common skins go for 4 cents on the steam market and the seller only gets 1 cent of that. Maybe that's the key here?
  7. The market is huge. Probably the biggest market for game items.
So, assuming all of that and that the return rate of cases is roughly 60% (based on this video), why isn't the community selling their skins for more money? On a small scale it seems so weird, that one would undersell their skins. Imagine opening 1000 cases (cases you got for free), paying 2,30€ each, so 2300 € in total and after that selling all your skins for only 1380€. But on a big scale this is actually what the community is doing, right?
What I'm wondering is, why is opening cases always such a gamble? Imagine a casino but all the players decide on the buy-ins, payouts, etc., why the fuck would you decide on a 60% return rate then? Hell even real casinos have higher return rates (82-98%). I realize that we humans often think "I'll be the lucky one" yada yada, but this still doesn't explain the whopping 40% loss.
As I said, I'm not an expert in any of these things and I'm probably missing something big here, but I hope this is the right sub and that someone can answer my question.

Thanks!

It is now officially 186 days since the last weapon case in CS:GO. We have long since broken the record for longest duration between cases. I sincerely hope we see the next case soon in order to potentially help counter act the increase in prices due to the recent Chinese infux. :o

I am super excited for the 20th anniversary case, but was really hoping we would see an additional case before then. The submissions end in 4 days. Hopefully the turn around in skin selection is brief!

[Discussion] Are you going to gamble on the china release of CS pumping up skin/sticker/case prices short term?

Could we see the Chinese being interested in the stickers/souvenir packages?
Will people buy skins they desire instead of opening cases?
Will popular skins see a rise in price?
And can we hope for chinese streamers/gaming personalities assisting the skin hype?
We certainly dont know, but are people here going to take the risk and buy before the release?
I am asking whether or not you take the risk

From a low-priced cases to 2 dollars, an analysis of CS:GO Buy and Sell Potential

Hello /csgobetting!
I just wanted to share my time on the analysis of buying and selling, in the csgolounge trading and steam marketplace.
The marketplace in itself is very unstable. There are guns which will get low-balled at a random time and at a blink, will get bought out when someone spots a cheap buy. This is the same with cases, which gets sold as fast as they are supplied, sometimes not even taking a refresh.
I started my buying and selling with 2 winter offensive cases. I sold these two at a very low price, .27 and .28 cents and from there acted upon looking for a gun that would appeal to the cs:go trading lounge's tastes. From their, I will look for profitable sales using median selling prices deducting a few cents for easy selling.
I started yesterday 10PM and ended today, 7PM at +8 timezone, 4/20/14
Date Amount Item 19-4-14 0.27 Winter Offensive 19-4-14 0.28 Winter Offensive 19-4-14 -0.27 Five-Seven Copper Galaxy 19-4-14 -0.27 Dual Barettas Hemoglobin 19-4-14 0.82 Red eSports 19-4-14 -0.28 P90 Teardown 20-4-14 0.25 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 0.06 Blue eSports 20-4-14 -0.70 StatTrak MP7 Skulls 20-4-14 0.27 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 0.28 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 0.29 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 -1.07 USP-S Dark Water 20-4-14 1.13 Operation Phoenix 20-4-14 -0.94 M4A1-S Bright Water 20-4-14 1.06 Weapon Case 1 20-4-14 -0.42 M4A1-S Blood Tiger 20-4-14 0.28 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 0.30 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 -1.10 AK-47 Blue Laminate 20-4-14 1.11 Operation Phoenix 20-4-14 -1.09 AK-47 Blue Laminate 20-4-14 1.10 Operation Phoenix 20-4-14 0.06 Blue eSports 20-4-14 -1.12 M4A4 Zirka 20-4-14 1.12 Operation Phoenix 20-4-14 0.06 Blue eSports 20-4-14 -0.97 USP-S Stainless Error in Trading (3 cents lost) 20-4-14 0.82 Red eSports 20-4-14 0.06 Blue eSports 20-4-14 0.06 Blue eSports 20-4-14 -0.81 Glock Blue Fissure 20-4-14 -0.19 Dual Barettas Panther 20-4-14 0.29 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 0.29 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 0.29 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 0.06 Blue eSports 20-4-14 0.06 Blue eSports 20-4-14 0.06 Blue eSports 20-4-14 0.06 Blue eSports 20-4-14 -0.27 CZ75-Auto Tread Plate 20-4-14 0.29 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 -0.41 UMP45 Bone Pile 20-4-14 -0.11 Galil AR Blue Titanium 20-4-14 -0.54 USP-S Overgrowth 20-4-14 0.29 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 0.29 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 0.29 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 0.29 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 -0.28 SG553 Ultraviolet 20-4-14 -0.42 StatTrak Five-Seven Nightshade 20-4-14 0.08 Weapon Case 2 20-4-14 0.08 Weapon Case 2 20-4-14 0.01 Weapon Case 3 20-4-14 0.28 Winter Offensive 20-4-14 0.28 Winter Offensive
Total work hours : 14 hours, all nighter.
This table only shows buying and selling of guns, trades were not documented, however this happened only once, from a USP-S Dark Water to an AK-47 Blue Laminate, giving me a gun with a higher value.
Buying and Selling is possible to a small degree, and would require long hours both marketing and researching on viable gun choices for purchase.
Once you hit 1 Dollar, it gets harder to sell because of guns that are valued more than usual cases (WO, Blue ES, Case 2) and is very difficult to trade without having either party gaining or losing 4 - 7 cents. It is faster to trade using low-priced restricted pistols, smgs for WO and Blue cases, gaining more profit, as most casual traders would rather have restricted guns than case they'll never open.
Insights are appreciated! Tell me where I went wrong, where I could have improved and your thoughts! :D
Edit : Table was edited to text. Looks slightly better.
Edit2 : This was done to show profit potential for trading in the lounge and does not, by any means, show that you can replace a job which pays much, much more. Would not recommend as a source of income, would recommend if you've got spare time, a few cases and a desire to get that gun you've always wanted and have no access to steam wallet funds, credit card transactions or weapon sellers.
Shared to show two things 1. With a bit of work, offering and luck, money will come, small increments sure but is a great way of getting your inventory fuller, faster than timed drops. 2. Steam market can be fuel to your next steam sale purchase or gifting skins. Just a few refreshes and a few quick trades and you'll get that new USP or that AK your friend always wanted.
