My Diligent Research on Likely MoonShots

Hi guys,
with this post I want to compress days of research so that you don't have to waste time by choosing long-term and undervalued projects.
You wouldn't believe how many hours of reading I've spent to come up with this list of projects.
I have "skin in the game" in each of the following coins, but don't worry because I'm plancton and can't dump on you.
I'll try to be as clear, using laymen terms, and as concise (no more than 3 points for projects) so that the reading won't hurt your brain.
The ordering is alphabetic to be fair towards the projects I've picked.
P.S.: This post took hours. If there's something wrong just tell me and I'll fix it. Enjoy!
Cartesi (CTSI #452 on CoinGecko 24M market cap) - It's a layer-2 solution running in Linux that helps layer-1 blockchains to scale. - They will release a Software Developer Kit and Optimistic Rollups (which are used to improve speed by quite a lot) soon. - CTSI token has utility: block rewards, staking and arbitration.
Celer Network (CELR #266 on CoinGecko 68M market cap) - It's a layer-2 solution that enables fast and low cost transactions. - It has a working an Software Developer Kit and an app called CelerX that showcases the speed they can achieve. - CELR token has utility: liquidity, staking and paying the service.

New Moderator Candidate Test

This Post contains several real former submissions and some created specifically for this test along with some fictional commentary by users created for this purpose.
The goal for the Candidates is to read each Post and review the comments to decide if, what, and when Moderator intervention is necessary.
In some cases nothing may be wrong at all, in others there may be a problem with the Post itself or a issue with the user comments.
The Moderator action should state the rule violation where necessary or sometimes just be used as a way to steer the conversation away from derailing the intent of the Post.
Your options as a Moderator in this test are:
If you are a candidate please use this format for your responses.
Example: u/EpicJourneyuMan [MOD] (Post 6) **RogerVector* This is a violation of Rule 1 and should be removed along with the user being permanently banned.
There was some thought of having all of the responses private in Mod Mail so that the candidates couldn't get useful hints from the others but it seems like this is also something the community can have fun commenting on, and there is no better test than real user comments.
Having real comments that real subscribers make in this thread that the candidates can wield their potential future moderator powers with by using the [MOD] preface seems like a reasonable experiment that will add some variety - but if things start to get out of hand or it turns out to be a bad idea we'll just remove the offending commentary.
The Candidates that get the first consideration are those who expressed interest in the recent "We are officially over 200k subscribers" sticky Post:
However, if you, the reader, would like to apply just use the same format with the "[MOD]" preface.
Note and Warning to users commenting: The Rules still apply and your comments will be Moderated the same way as any other Post - so please don't get caught up in trying to play a role, that's what the Test examples are for.
On to the Test.
POST ONE:===================================

The impressive tech news that time forgot - movies, videos, and TV shows have been being retroactively edited since 2011

📷News & Media
In a way, this seems to behave like an Effect because virtually nobody seems to remember that this happened...
When I say "retroactively" I don't mean that they "have always been that way" now, I mean that an episode of a popular TV program or other older media is being edited with different backgrounds, billboards, soft drinks, and even Sporting events on the television in a bar scene from a rerun episode of an old favorite sitcom.
So it’s not hard to imagine this ability also being able to do something like alter the Back to the Future van if you see this video at around the the 50 second mark...and keep in mind that this has been being done for at least nine years for advertising.
In 2014 it was big News that old music videos, TV shows, and rebroadcasts were being edited with new product placement and the tech was featured in Rolling Stone magazine, TV News, Late Night shows, and continued to have many articles following the progress of the technology that was being used since at least 2011.
It was and still is a pretty big deal - but honestly, how many people remembered this without me bringing it up?
It doesn't take a lot of imagination to envision how technology like this could be abused and one of the linked articles even describes how AI algorithms can be used to edit digital content online.
It occurs to me that this seemingly benign altering of background imagery may actually have an effect on the psyche that one would hope is unintentional in that what we remember subconsciously may trigger a form of cognitive dissonance when the imagery doesn't match up with the expected scene stored in memory - i.e. the mind notices something is off about it.
I say "hope is unintentional" because during the course of my research in to memory implantation I read several articles that explained that the best tools to use for altering memories upon recall were sleep deprivation and cognitive dissonance because the mind is more open to the power of suggestion in these states.
The suspicious side of me can easily see this being done intentionally to make the subliminal messaging "stick"...but of course corporations would always act ethically right?
I'm not saying Mirriad is a bad company or anything , they're still at it, and other companies have joined the fray as well now but who else is using similar technology?
...and why is nobody talking about it?

**IAmBecky:* I love Pokemon is this what happened to his black tail?
**NiQuil:* What are you 9 years old? The Mandela Effect is stupid.
**LeveItToCleaver:* This whole thing seems like something children made up
**Awesomo420:* I can totally see this being used by shady characters to gaslight and influence people. In fact, this totally seems like something that was dreamed up by DARPA or some kind of MKUltra program.
**AllSeeingI33:* More like the Freemasons, they're involved in just about everything.
**DaringDew:* Yes...I see
**MentalMagellan:* I'm not sure the OP really understands what "cognitive dissonance" is or why this has anything to do with the Mandela Effect but he is right about sleep deprivation having a dramatic effect on the psychological state of human beings or any mammal for that matter.
I think this is just an example of Television and Advertising executives using technology to improve sales and ratings.

The Sinbad Genie Movie - complete analysis

📷
This is far and away the biggest ME for me personally, there is nothing else like it that I have learned of so far - in that, it is not a simple misspelling, physical trait in a logo design, misquoted line of dialogue, or anything else that can be rationally explained...It has been erased from existence!
Even the people involved like Sinbad himself claim there is no such thing yet everyone I talk to remembers it in some fashion (if they're old enough to hit the demographic).
So, I was taught very well how to debate things and the primary lesson in debate tactics is being able to take any side of the issue and still win (this shouldn't be about winning - but that's how debate teams work).
The first thing I will tell you is that this is a very real thing, but I am going to start by deliberately trying to dismantle my own argument...here it goes:
I think that pretty much covers that side of the debate - now my turn:
-I managed a Video Store back in the "heyday" of the video rental business and was responsible, with my uncle (he was the owner - I owned/managed and dealt primarily with the videogame side) for ordering the upcoming "New Release Titles for rental as they became available
The lamp is rubbed for the first time by two kids - an early teen boy, and his little sister who looks to be around 5 years old or so in their living room by the fireplace while their single dad is out of the house running an errand - the boy rubs the lamp and "Sinbad" appears with full genie attire...turban, ridiculous spiral upturned shoes, ear rings, silk pants and shirt, and I believe a green/blue vest but can't say for sure.
Sinbad stretches his arms out wide in the smoke filled room and says something like "I am the genie of the lamp" and the kids freak out! The little girl screams out "Aaaaagh! It's a kidnapper!" - or something like that as they run away
So there you have the gist of it, if you can tell me another movie that has two kids and a genie that looks like Sinbad or where one of the wishes is fixing the doll, I'd love to hear about it.
Please, please, PLEASE! don't even bring the Shaq movie in to this conversation - I can't emphasize enough that it has absolutely nothing to do with this movie...

Comments:
**LeaveItToCleaver:* Maybe, just maybe, this one gets me but I'm sure I am confusing it with another movie and you probably are too.
**Awesomo420:* This is how I came to discover the Effect, it totally was a real movie and I just can't believe it totally disappeared like this.
Maybe there is some kind of technology at work that can implant and alter memories? I'm not ready to buy-in to the parallel universe theories just yet but this completely baffles me.
**AllSeeingI33:* It's the Jews they completely run Hollywood and there is obviously something about it they don't like. You should check out "The Elder Scrolls of Zion".
**Awesomo420:* I'm Jewish, I guarantee you that we don't run around making children's movies disappear.
**IAmBecky:* I am too young to remember this movie but I asked my dad about it and he TOTALLY remembers it. He's actually freaking out about it now and I'm like "I told you this was real" hahahehe
**NiQuil:* What does your mommy say?
**IamBecky:* Why are you so mean?
**NiQuil*: I'm not mean, I'm an adult telling you to grow up
**MentalMagellan:* I see that the OP tried to debate himself to make his case more believable but this is an obvious case of confabulation.
It is a very well understood psychological phenomenon that explains better than half of the Mandela Effects that I read on here.
I know that that the OP said not to bring Kazaam into this but conflating the memories of this Shaquile O'Neil movie (who also happens to be black) with other movies like Aladdin and the Sinbad the Sailor films is all that this is.
There, I solved the Mandela Effect for you.
**DaringDew:* Yes...I see
POST FOUR=================================
I was watching the movie JAWS the other day and I was shocked to find out that Hooper survives! I totally remember him getting killed in the shark cage! Does anybody else remember that or am I going crazy?
Comments:
**LeaveItToCleaver*: No mate, just no
**MentalMagellan*: You are confusing it with the book.
POST FIVE===================================

Don't call it a PsyOp...Let's call it Memetic Engineering.

📷Theory
Have you noticed the conspicuous lack of newly reported Mandela Effects lately?
I'm not suggesting that there is not a constant infusion of new people learning of the Effect or experiencing it for themselves for the first time but rather that the reporting of new Effects that are recognized and shared by a large group of people has fallen dramatically in recent weeks.
What if I told you there might be a reason for that?
First, a little bit of context.
The last two reported Effects that seemed to affect a large number of people and seemed to be new at the time to many of them from my perspective were "Shaggy's missing Adam's Apple" and "Kurt Cobain's missing feathefluffy jacket" both reported about two months ago.
Disclaimer: I am an acting moderator here on this subreddit and the opinions I am putting forward here in this theory are my own as a user and in no way reflect the opinions and positions of the moderation team.
Now, the easy skeptical explanation would be that there are only so many things that can be easily confused or misremembered and that after several years of people reporting them, they have pretty much all been discovered, reported, theorized about, and elaborated on.
Those who know anything about my posting history are surely already aware that this is NOT the path I'm going to take with this.
I've been working on kind of a grand unification theory (like a lot of people) for an explanation for the Mandela Effect and this is just one facet of it and by no means a conclusion.
We are the unwitting participants in a long term study about the validity and usefulness of Memetic Engineering
Ask yourself; when was the first time you heard the word meme?
It's used all the time nowadays, but really... when did it become so commonplace?
The word was originally coined by author and famous Atheist Richard Dawkins in his 1976 book The Selfish Gene and spawned the study of Memetics.
Basically, the idea is that a meme acts like a gene and is passed on and propagated by like minded individuals and contributes to forming an inherent trait that can be passed on if it proves to be a successful adaptation.
Personally, I don't recall hearing the word much until the advent of Social Media and not really taking off till somewhere around 2010 or so - but that's just me.
There was actually quite a bit of excitement about this idea in scientific circles even after Mr. Dawkins somewhat distanced himself from the notion in later works.
This really has a lot to do with the notion of Social Engineering and the kinds of studies carried on by organizations like the Tavistock Institute in my opinion (a rabbit hole in itself).
There is an excellent article from 1996 in Wired Magazine that explains some of the ideas about what can be accomplished with Memetic Engineering - here is a brief excerpt:
The objectives of this research, breathtaking in their implications, were described by the investigators in Growing Artificial Societies: Social Science from the Bottom Up, a project monograph: The broad aim of this research is to begin the development of a more unified social science, one that embeds evolutionary processes in a computational environment that simulates demographics, the transmission of culture, conflict, economics, disease, the emergence of groups, and co-adaptation with the environment, all from the bottom up. Research initiatives like the 2050 Project hold out the prospect of such a new kind of social science, as well as the possibility of a new science of memetic engineering. While predictions about the pace of scientific innovation are notoriously risky, my guess is that by the beginning of the 21st century the embryonic field of computer-based memetic studies either will reveal itself as an intellectual dry hole or will prove to be a technology of extraordinary power. If the second scenario comes to pass, what are the long-term implications for our self-image as a species - endowed as we are with at least the illusion of free will and blessed, perhaps uniquely among the creatures of this earth, with the baffling gift of conscious thought?
First the dark scenario. Memes might come to be viewed explicitly as the primary actors in the drama of human history, exerting an iron-fisted control precisely analogous to that of Richard Dawkins's "selfish genes" in the pageant of biological evolution. This is the disquieting vision that Daniel Dennett proffered - the human mind as a mere meat computer, conscious human beings as puppets dancing to the blind watchmaker's hidden melodies. But is this a fair reading of the philosophical implications of memes? Perhaps not. If we consider the matter carefully, we can glimpse a subtler message lurking between the lines of this emerging discipline. It is the same message implicit in the new science of evolutionary psychology, articulated by Robert Wright in The Moral Animal: Understanding the often unconscious nature of genetic control is the first step toward understanding that we're all puppets, and our best hope for even partial liberation is to try to decipher the logic of the puppeteer.
What I am proposing is that this test has gone live and we may be unwitting participants in it.
This is actually more probable than it may at first sound when you consider the sheer volume of "Terms and Conditions" that we all agree to every time we download a new App, update the operating systems of our electronic devices, join a Social Media platform, or partake in the Beta testing of software or a "free" game.
Facebook caught a lot of flak for treating users as human guinea pigs a few years back by trying to alter their moods with targeted news feeds and articles to track how their posting habits changed and affected others in their social media circle.
The truth is that this still goes on all the time and things like Psychographics are used by advertisers and political activists to sway public opinion and manipulate the masses.
What I'm suggesting here though is a little bit different and was inspired by two events that are something of iconic moments in the history of Mandela Effect reporting:
I am not really a follower or fan of Fiona Broom and really wish she could have come up with a better name than "Mandela Effect" but the fact that she was supposedly approached by people claiming that they were doing important research and asked her to lay off commenting about it is something that if true, is really interesting and ties in to the Apollo 13 flip-flop in a way that makes the whole thing make a little bit more rational sense.
For those who don't know, the Apollo 13 flip-flop is where experiencers witness a clip from the movie where the line is said "had" instead of "have" and it then seems to magically change back to the iconic "Houston we have a problem".
What's the big deal? many may ask...
The big deal is that this has been witnessed by many people, myself included, and was extensively researched using all accessible media online at the time as well as supposedly on peoples' personal media/DVD's at home over the span of days to weeks.
Even more strange, people continue to have their own experiences with this at completely different times.
I had my experience somewhere around August of 2016 and can absolutely attest to the fact that all available media online said the famous quote as "had" and that the camera angle in some of the clips was slightly different - I cannot vouch for the separate testimonies that claimed the movies users had at home changed since I obviously couldn't witness it for myself...but for the span of somewhere around a week or so every clip that I brought up online to view had the alternate dialogue and when it changed back, they all did.
Occams Razor is overused in this forum sometimes but seems appropriate here:
If something supernatural is not the explanation, and the witnesses are of sound mind, really the only rational explanation is that the clips were deliberately changed and targeted to a specific group as part of some kind of test or research project.
...and if that's true, a likely reason behind it would be as part of the testing of Memetic Engineering techniques.
Are we just being used as human Guinea pigs in a long term test that is nearing completion?
Comments:
**AllSeeingI33*: That's totally what's going on! it makes perfect sense - this is what they used to get Trump Elected and in the attempt to get him re-elected right?
I mean they used Steve Bannon and his experience from Cambridge Analytica to create the whole QAnon thing and then used this Memetic Engineering technique to steer the masses and get them riled up so that they would vote for him!
**Awesomo420:* I think I actually agree with you on this one...and that scares me
**NiQuil:* I love my President! and would vote for him a hundred times if I could. Y'all are just a bunch of Libtards!
**Awesomo420:* Of course you would you frickin' Nazi, I bet you're a "Proud Boy" too
**IAmBecky:* That would explain why he is so mean
**LeaveItToCleaver:* I see you guys didn't read the Rules.
**DaringDew:* Yes...I see
**MentalMagellan:* I think the OP missed the point about Occam's Razor.
This is obviously just coincidences and the human mind's desire to put things in order when they don't make sense - basically a way to rationalize the irrational when an obvious explanation proves elusive.
**Awesomo420:* I think this Post is Brilliant!

Edit: A major oversight on my part is that I neglected to mention not to use the ”u” in any of the comments referring to these fictional users just in case there is a real user out there with the same name - poor /NiQuil got a mysterious notification and realized he had become the topic of conversation over here quite by accident (sorry, thanks for being a good sport).
I’ll go back and add an asterisk and take away the slash in the fictional usernames so future comments don’t get us in trouble with real users.

Augur platform is based on the Ethereum blockchain and is a set of smart contracts. Augur is not a prediction market, it is software that allows users to create their own prediction markets.

https://preview.redd.it/qlyn59gujff61.jpg?width=984&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a4167ca38e6e13819362045b72a8c23876182bf5
Any user of the network can use the services of the Augur protocol via a desktop client application. You can download the latest version of the Augur App for Windows, Linux or Mac OS on GitHub. Augur protocol users place bets on the outcome of an event.

How to make money on Augur

The Augur platform provides two ways to make money:
  • Creating a prediction market
  • Trade forecast shares
A certain amount of ETH is required to create a market. The forecast can be on any topic, for example, "Will Bitcoin be worth $20,000 on January 1st, 2021?" A user who opens a new market with a prediction issues a certain number of ‘shares’, which will be bought by other market participants who are voting for this or that answer. The Market Creator also specifies the Creator Commission, which can range between 0-50% of the total award for the market winners. The lower the commission percentage, the more actively other users will participate in the market. However, the commission must cover the cost of securing the issued shares.
A participant who has bought a certain number of ‘shares’ is not obliged to keep them until the end of the voting and can sell them, if they consider such a deal to be profitable. So the buyer of the ‘shares’ can earn on the resale or hold the ‘shares’ until the end and if successful, get a win.

Example of a reward/loss distribution

One ‘share’ costs 0.5 ETH. Provided that you bought 1 share - when you win, you get 1 ETH; if you lose, you lose 0.5 ETH.
The system's internal token is called REP. REP is not needed to place bets, it is used by arbiters during Augur's market dispute phases to confirm voting results. REP holders must bet their tokens on the correct outcome of a specific market in order to receive a portion of the commission.
When creating a new poll, the owner chooses a ‘designated reporter’, that is, the oracle reporting the fact of the event. The source of verification indicates the creator of the market. They also put a deposit in REP, which will be returned to them after the outcome of the vote, regardless of the results. Unless, of course, they created a deliberately false topic, which should be recognized by the general consensus of the oracles. The amount of the promissory note varies, depending on the market created. In addition, insurance is made in case of inaction of the selected reporter.
Upon the fact of the event, the chosen oracle publishes a preliminary result within 3 days. After that, the deposit is returned in case of inaction. Otherwise, the deposit is used to pay for the public oracle, who will be the first to publish the fact of the event.
According to users, Augur could be a substitute for betting platforms that charge high commissions, ban winners, delay withdrawals, freeze accounts and have privacy issues that prevent mid-game bets from being sold.

30 games I recommend

This list is completely based on my personal experience and at times I played average games in a good mood that made them better or great games in a poor mood that made them worse. Also, a lot of these games are 9's or more - games that were below 7's for me I didn't bother to write about and a lot of other ones that would have been bad I just never downloaded to play. I hope this list gives you some inspiration for the next game that might hook you.

Chaos Rings III: This is a massive game with a long story and plenty of new powers to unlock. The game is pretty damn expensive $40!!!. It has no in game purchases but the way it is designed would make you think that they were originally intending to have them because there are booster back that can be unlocked. For this reason I actually rooted my phone and installed Game Genie so that I could cheat about 100 of the packs into my save and this was a really fun boost to skip a good chunk of the game's grind. (8.2/10 - fun characters and story, gameplay mechanics could have been deeper)

Clash Of Clans: Great OG game, I spent about $20 on getting some unlocks/boosts. Unfortunately that money felt wasted. Games like these where timers (and purchasing time-skips) are part of the gameplay, literally require you to pay to play. Great quality game but this type of revenue model in games is just a pain (would pay $30 outright to skip all timers for 6 months, etc.) I actually don't recommend this game even though it is on the list - this is more of a recommendation not to play. (6.4/10 - waiting to play is horrible).

Walking Dead: Road to Survival: Just like Clash Of Clans - I was really into this because of like the Walking Dead series. Unfortunately the timewalls are just horrible. I spent $40 to get booster packs for new characters and didn't get anything worthwhile. Emailed support to ask for a free boost to compensate and they declined. I actually don't recommend this game even though it is on the list - this is more of a recommendation not to play. (6.4/10 - timewall is annoying).

The Walking Dead: Season One: Worth $80 if it cost that much. Fantastic story and I still remember it to this day. (9.6/10 - very limited interactivity, but this is a game for its story).

The Room: Other peeople will really enjoy this. I didn't like the puzzle game design - I don't generally like these style of games. I get stuck and have to look up the answer on Youtube or just become bored. (8/10 - Other people will like this game but I never spent more than two hours on this).

Fallout Shelter: Probably the best free game around. Really fun building and questing mechanic. The pay element is mostly non intrusive. After about 12 hours of playing the game falls off because the timewall starts to come into effect but until then the game is terrific. (8.4/10 - too bad I can't buy the game for $25 to destroy timewalls and play freely).

Vainglory: I had a lot of fun with this game. It will be deleted from my phone once Wildrift comes out, but for a MOBA experience on mobile, this is great. (8.5/10 - I did have ping fluctuations from time to time).

PPSSPP: This is a PSP emulator that I used to play Persona 3. Worked amazingly on the phone and what a great game. Buy a copy of Persona 3, throw it down the drain and then load the rom onto your phone to stay legal. (10/10 - terrific game and runs like it is native).

Pirates Outlaws: I had a lot of fun with this game. It has a really cheap price tag of only $5. I probably put about 15 hours into this game and had a great time. Unfortunately you have to buy the other characters to unlock their mechanics if you want to skip a horendous grind. They were just too expensive so I didn't bother. (8.1/10 - should have bumped the price $10 and unlocked all characters).

The Bonfire: Forsaken Land: I played the demo and enjoyed it a lot so paid for the full unlock. The game itself is challenging but very fun. I probably put 10 hours into this game, unfortunately it ends very quickly. I have heard there is a sequel on the way and I would happily buy it to play when it comes out. (8.9/10 unfortunately just a bit too short).

Kingdom: New Lands: What Bonfire was based on, Kingdom is a really smart and simple game that has a lot of depth. I put a good 10 - 15 hours into the game, however I never got past the 2nd island. For me it is just too difficult and there should have been option to make aspects easiemore relaxed. (8.2/10 - never finished it because it was too hard).

Rebuild 3: Gangs of Deadsville: I had a lot of fun with the story and played it for a good 10 hours. Unfortunately I forgot about it halfway through the campaign and never picked it up again. It lacked some magic to really make it an impossible to put down experience. Combining all the maps into one large map would have rewarded the aspect of building up a town. (7.8/10 - graphics are a little bit average and it missed something to hook me for 30+ hours).

Teamfight Tactics: I got to gold rank and played a good 20-30 hours. I am also a big fan of League but unfortunately I just don't enjoy autochess games. Quality is top shelf however and the price model is extremely non-aggressive. (9.3/10).

Stardew Valley: Great game. Put 30+ hours into this. Costs $14 on the appstore but probably worth $35. (9.5/10 - unfortunately the pixel graphics are just a bit ugly in my opinion).

Meteorfall: Journeys: Really enjoyable game with no invasive transactions. Not expensive at all and a great game to play travelling. (9/10).

Legends of Runeterra: Again, I am a big league fan so got this to play straight away. Spent a lot of time on this. Really well polished if you want to play a card game or like League lore. (9.7/10).

Don't Starve: Pocket Edition: This and Crashlands (which isn't on this list but I have briefly played) are both great fun and at a $7 price tag a no-brainer for a good game at a cheap price. Pick up and play if you haven't before. (9.5/10).

Battle Chasers: Nightwar: This is what android gaming should be. A full game available for a fair price that you can sink into for 20-30 hours. Great graphics and gameplay. Very polished overall. If you like turn-based combat then give it a try. (8.7/10)

Among Us: Literally only took two games to have me laughing in tears. Very fun multiplayer game and I bet it would be a great game with friends. Literally free to download so why wouldn't you? (8.9/10 - lacks a bit of polish).

Redcon: I had fun for awhile until I read that you can't replay old missions to get more money/bases for the next chapter level you are at. I understand if you make wrong purchase decisions you can become hardstuck at certain levels because you can't upgrade any more without beating the level but can't beat the level because you can't upgrade any more. (7.7/10 - the game is a fun FTL style game but unfortunately I lost interest once I realised you couldn't go back and replay previous levels).

Ticket To Earth: I was initially put off by the screenshots but playing the game I quickly got hooked. The tile mechanic is very intelligent and fun. On top of this is a great RPG system and a good story. Definitely worth the $7.50 pricetag. (9/10)

Crying Suns: I Loooved this game and put 30+ hours into it. I would give it a 10 except that I am not a big fan of pixel graphics style and each chapter you lose all progress on your ship which is a bit annoying. (9.2/10).

Portal Knights: I really recommend this if you like Minecraft style games at all. Fun building, a good story driven RPG and very polished/looks great. (9.4/10).

Grimvalor: A fun, heavy style side scroller game. Very polished and easy to get into. I haven't finished this but will definitely come back to it from time to time. (7.8/10 - more depth to the RPG would have been appreciated).

Deadcells: Probably the best Android game you can buy. Ported extremely well and the game itself is all about learning and getting better with each attempt. (9.8/10 - unfortunately I am not a big fan of pixel art so that throws me slightly).

Limbo: Probably the second best Android game you can buy. Easy to learn controls keeps you going through a game that is all about the immersing world. After I finished this I went away and read all about the story and what it meant. (9.5/10 - a bit short to be perfect).

Sheltered: This game is everything I want: a Fallout Shelter style game with no timers, just buy in full and get the game. Unfortunately it only takes 20 hours to become safe to a point that the challenge is gone. Also the graphics are not my preferred style. (8.7/10 - a paintjob and more challenge in the endgame would make this my number one game).

Lara Croft GO: People sleep on this game but it is actually a really fun puzzle game that I fully completed and went back to again. Would definitely recommend anyone to give it a try (and also the Hitman GO game too). (9.2/10).

Game Dev Tycoon: A game that I put a lot of hours into (40+). Really enjoyable progression game where you create your own stories. Unfortunately the game type combinations are a bit predictable, so that you only need to create a survival game with zombies or an adventure game with RPG to have a perfect game. However everything else about the game is great and I enjoyed the whole thing. (9.6/10).

This War Of Mine: I loved everything about this game. I just wish it had an endless mode and that it had an option to make it a bit easier. (9.6/10).

If I had to recommend three games to go download now and play, they would be Game Dev Tycoon, Crying Suns and Legends of Runterra.

About Omni Slots Online Casino

Keep On Spinning is Omni Slots slogan printed on the brand logo. And this slogan is well justified. Just imagine seeing over 500 pokies in the lobby and they are all yours! Hosting games from 10+ vendors, the reviewed gambling destination is a real paradise for Australian users who love pokies. Besides purely game content, Omni Slots has an omnidirectional bonus kit that comprises many types of bonuses, from reload deals to generous cashback, all neatly packed into a catchy monthly bonus calendar. Curious players who are set to improve their gambling skills and deepen their knowledge of gambling are encouraged to jump to the casino blog where over a hundred of relevant articles are posted. Signup process is nothing exceptional – it is safe, goes smoothly and requires the minimum personal details from a player. Once signed up, the player interacts with the casino straight in a browser, no app downloads needed. Findings reveal that Omni Slots have many positive ratings on professional forums, that is why the online casino cannot but be recommended to everyone.

Depositing and withdrawing funds

AUD and other currencies (bitcoins are not in the whitelist) can be deposited using any of the six safe and trusted methods including Visa, MasterCard, Neosurf vouchers, Skrill, Neteller and paysafecard. Min/max transaction limits at depositing are $10/$1000. The max deposit does not restrict the number of daily transfers.
Quite predictably, withdrawals are less comfortable than deposits because their choices are narrower with only Skrill, Neteller and bank transfer used. Anyway, Australians seem to have gotten used to tight cashout options and shrug off this inconvenience. The minimum amount that the player has the right to withdraw is $20. The max amount that the casino is able to process per day (per user) is $5000, but a monthly limit is $25,000. The pending period is 24 hours during which a player can revoke the cashout.

Omni Slots mobile casino for Australians

When at home or out and away, Omni Slots is always at hand thanks to the well-designed mobile casino that fits almost every mobile device. Thanks to a wide variety of game providers present in Omni Slots, players have lots of HTML5 mobile-optimized pokie choices to suit everyone’s taste.

Video pokies

The casino has integrated some 500 pokies (and counting) from an array of famous providers such as Amatic, Betsoft, Gamomat, Leander, StakeLogic and Wazdan. Three-reel pokies are located in the Fruit Slots section, while 5-reelers are found in the Video Slots tab. First off, a noticeable downside to the game list arrangement is the lack of filters. There is one that helps readjust the list by provider yet it is hidden under the Looking Glass icon for some reason. Some gamblers may not guess to click on that icon because it looks like a Game Search widget.
Pokies from Betsoft are most numerous in the casino collection. Every game from this provider carries the mix of exciting gameplay and visual perfection more typical of modern animated cartoons. Being one of unmatched leaders in the field, Betsoft provides Omni Slots players with a big inventory of fabulous pokies which are full of fantastic bonus features. It is hard to pick the best pokie from many titles; apparently, most of them show excellence in many aspects. Anyway, some of the most tried and true titles are Gladiator, Good Girl Bad Girl, The Slotfather, Mega Gems and The Tipsy Tourist.
Pokies from Gamomat, a German company, are poorly promoted in Australia and they are almost unknown to the general public. Yet their portfolio deserves attention for a few reasons. First, Omni Slots offers Gamomat pokies of the Fire Pot series, among others. These games are known to have six progressive jackpots each: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and others. Second, there is a Golden Nights series that provides for a side bet that unlocks a unique bonus feature with huge prizes. Examples include Royal Seven, Book of Moorhuhn and Fruit Mania.
Leander’s pokies give other vendors some competition thanks to high-quality graphics and interactive bonus features. Some of the most sought-after solutions are Megadeth, Trick Or Treat and Little Pigs. Many of their games have 20 paylines but there are also pokies with 25, 30 and 40 variable lines. Wild symbols in Leander’s pokies usually bring high prizes, for example, in Jean Wealth, five wilds win x5000 times ($50,000 at max).
StakeLogic with their branded Megaways technology are a young and ambitious company offering a variety of highly animated pokies to Omni Slots users. Spectacular graphics and animations are combined with some interesting bonus solutions such as side-by-side games with double reels, double symbols and reel modifiers. Their pokies are on a par with the industry giants and even exceed them in some respect. The most enticing and incredible pokies from StakeLogic are Wild Genie, Space Stallion and Mystical Santa Megaways.

About Whamoo Casino [Full Review]

Whamoo is a brand new, fun-loving online casino that has recently opened its premises for gamblers from many countries around the world. It does however promise to be more than just an online casino, as Whamoo describes itself as a lifestyle and feeling.
The rush you feel when the reels spin. The sound you make when that spin turns into a huge win. That’s Whamoo. Yet Whamoo is so much more than that. This online casino promises all you would expect from a reputable online casino – but then improved further. A massive game library? Check. Live casino? Check. Full mobile compatibility? Check. An entire VIP bonus programme for loyal customers? Check. Whamoo is a casino which comes with the entire package which players have come to expect of a casino provider.
On paper Whamoo sounds like a great online casino. But being a newcomer on the scene, there are of course always some open questions. How reliable is Whamoo? What can you expect from this brand new casino when it comes to the available games? How cooperative is their online help desk? What kind of welcome bonuses are there for new players who wish to open an online account?
In our extensive Whamoo review, we will try to answer all of the above questions and guide you through this brand new casino. So do read on and let’s explore this exciting new addition to the world of online gambling!

A fully licenced online casino

Whamoo is a fully licenced online casino and a safe place for gamblers to put down their wagers. The website of whamoo.com is operated by DialMedia Ltd, a company registered by the Malta Business Registry with number C86642, on the registered address of Depiro Point, Block A2, Triq Mons G. Depiro, Sliema, Malta.
As gambling operator, DialMedia Ltd. fully licensed and regulated by the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) under licence number MGA/B2C/542/2018 issued on 10/04/2019.
What does this say about the reliability of Whamoo?
The MGA licence is one of the better ones you can find in the online casino world as Malta is the major European nation when it comes to online gambling. It is home not only to most of the world’s top online casinos, but also to many software providers and other businesses providing auxiliary services in the gambling industry.
A Malta Gaming Authority licence is not handed out with ease, as a company needs to fulfil many criteria before being granted one. The national gambling authorities of this Mediterranean island and EU member state check for example if all games which are made available are indeed fair and honest. They also check whether a company has enough cash reserves to pay out lucky winners of casino games and hold regular audits to ensure that there are no irregularities.
If an online casino has a MGA licence, it means that all the important criteria when it comes to safety, honesty and reliability are fulfilled and that it is a safe place to gamble. For us, the online casino licence is always a first thing we check before we even would consider playing somewhere. With this crucial criteria being fulfilled, we can thus move forward in our Whamoo review and look at all the other things this casino has to offer. And to be honest, the whole Whamoo package looks quite promising! Three of the main selling points of the Whamoo online casino are:
Whamoo clearly sounds like a promising casino when looking at the selling points, but do these points hold up when we test out the casino in real? Let’s continue our review of Whamoo with one of the most important aspects of every online casino: its game library. Which casino games can we find back in the Whamoo game collection? How honest and fair are these games? These are all legit questions which must be looked into before you can decide whether or not an online casino is suitable or not.

Games from top software developers

When checking the list of Whamoo’s software providers you can only feel relieved as this brand new online casino only has games from the world’s top casino games developers. Especially for a newly opened online casino it is important to show to the public that you are talking serious – and you can only do that by adding the most popular games from the top software providers to your game library.
It’s not only about fun. Sure, these top software developers are known for making some of the most fantastic video slots, stellar table games. They have the most exhilarating and professional live casino tables to which you can connect in just a few clicks. But it’s more than just playing fun, graphics and game design.
By only having games from the top software companies, you are giving your players a clear message that you are only satisfied with the best quality games. Perhaps the most important aspect is game reliability, honesty and fairness. All games from the top software companies are fully tested and accredited by regulatory bodies. These gaming authorities check whether games indeed turn out completely random results and give gamblers a honest shot at winning. This is perhaps even more important than just a fantastically designed game, as in the end what matters most is reliability and honesty inside a casino.

RNG

The games which can be played at Whamoo Casino all have a piece of code called a Random Number Generator (RNG). With a random number generator, the outcome of every game is completely random and independent from previous results. It means that every card being dealt on the table, all dice which are thrown during a game, and every ball spinning around in the roulette wheel is never predetermined. Let’s put it this way: if you throw a single dice with the numbers 1 to 6 on it, you have indeed an exact 1 out of 6 chance that it will land on your predicted number.
A random number generator is absolutely crucial when it comes to delivering fair game results and giving gamblers a honest chance at winning. By having games from the top software providers, Whamoo makes sure that you can trust the fairness of every casino game you play. The good thing is that not only are the game results subject to occasional audits by regulatory authorities, but that these software providers also pro-actively test their own games to ensure they fulfil the highest industry standards. They hire independent testing agencies such as eCOGRA to check their games, both in virtual simulations and real-time results.
Let’s take a look at the software providers whose games have already been added to the Whamoo game library. As these are some of the best known software developers in the world, chances are that you have heard about some of these names before!

NETENT GAMES

Also known by its full name of Net Entertainment, NetEnt is one of the largest casino game developers in the world. NetEnt is a Swedish company which was founded in 1996, which makes it one of the oldest companies in the relatively young world of online casino gaming. It is so big, that the company is even listed on the local NASDAQ stock exchange in Stockholm, Sweden!
NetEnt is best known for its vast video slot portfolio, of which many games are also playable at Whamoo. Having NetEnt games in your casino game library is almost a must for every online casino, as besides Whamoo some 300 or so more online casinos have NetEnt games available, which tells you something about the popularity of this company. Just like Whamoo itself, NetEnt has a full gambling licence in the EU member state of Malta, which means that all games are subject to regulatory oversight and can be trusted for their fairness. NetEnt also works closely together with independent testing labs to ensure that their games meet the highest standards.
Some popular NetEnt games which you can play at Whamoo are Jack and the Beanstalk, BerryBurst, Twin Spin, The Vikings, Wings of Riches, Aloha!, Fruit Shop, Jacks or Better, Gonzo’s Quest, Dazzle Me, Wild Bazaar and of course the eternal favourite of Starburst.

PRAGMATIC PLAY GAMES

Pragmatic Play is another major company in the online gaming world. The casino games of Pragmatic Play are always popular with the players, so it is no surprise that Whamoo has chosen to add quite a few Pragmatic Play games to its online collection. Pragmatic Play focuses mostly on online video slots, although they also make some exciting live casino games which are hosted in their own studios.
Being only founded in 2015, Pragmatic Play is a relative newcomer within the game developing industry. Yet in those few years time, the company already managed to reach to top heights with Pragmatic Play being considered to rank among the top game providers. Quality and safety are of immense importance for Pragmatic Play. Therefore, all games are documented and tested by independent auditors and testing labs such as QUINEL, BMM and Gaming Labs.
Popular Pragmatic Play games which can be played at Whamoo are John Hunter and the Aztec Treasure, Great Rhino Megaways, Leprechaun Song, Lucky Dragons, Mustang Gold, The Champions, Vegas Nights, Aztec Gems, Buffalo King, Starz Megaways, Triple Jokers, Magic Crystals, Sugar Rush, Beowulf and many more exciting video slots.
Of course, many baccarat, blackjack and roulette variants are available in Whamoo’s Live Casino which is powered by Pragmatic Play software. You are connected by high resolution video feed to professional dealers and croupiers in one of the Pragmatic Play casino studios where you can experience the thrills of a real life casino behind your computer or mobile phone. It’s almost like you are standing in Vegas!

STAKELOGIC GAMES

Stakelogic is another popular software developer which has added its games to the Whamoo game library. As one of the best-known developers in the software industry, it is always a good sign that Stakelogic games are available to play given that this company has made some exciting video slots.
Using HTML5, Stakelogic games are of course fully mobile compatible, which means you can play them on your smartphone as well. The company has also made some exciting new 3D slots which are not only gorgeous to look at but also wild fun to play. As an off-shoot company from gaming giants Novomatic, Stakelogic certainly is a reputable software developer which can be trusted when it comes to fairness and reliability.
Popular Stakelogic games are Epic Slam, Wild Stallion, Magic Wheel, Super Wild Arcade, Fruit Spinner, Lucky Gems Deluxe, Hot Fruits, Grand Slam Deluxe, Runner Runner, Turbo 4 Player Jackpot, Dragons and Magic, Big 5 Jungle Jackpot, Mariachi and The Big Cash Game.

Join for some high stakes blackjack action

Blackjack has always been one of the most popular games among high rollers and the reasons why are quite clear. You can often bet high amounts of money on a single play and you can as a player slightly influence the outcome of a game as you need to decide whether you want to stand or hit another card.
At Whamoo, there is plenty of high stakes blackjack action. There are both normal blackjack games such as American Blackjack and multihand Blackjack, as well as blackjack tables in the live casino. In the live casino, which is powered by Pragmatic Play software, you can play several blackjack variants. Bets of up to several hundreds of euros or dollars, or even higher for the real VIPs, are possible.
Beat the hand of the dealer and hit that score of 21. Maybe it will be your lucky day playing blackjack at Whamoo Online Casino!

Grab a seat at the roulette table

There is plenty of roulette action at Whamoo as well. You can choose between virtual roulette versions, or opt for a seat at a roulette table in the live casino, where you are connected to a real-time croupier by video feed. Whamoo's unique bonus package

One area in which Whamoo stands out as online casino is its great bonus package. Of course, there is a great welcome bonus for newly registered users. But the fun doesn’t stop there! At Whamoo casino, it is bonus day almost every single day of the week. On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays the casino has recurring bonus offers if you reload you bankroll on one of those days. This makes Whamoo not only an attractive casino at the moment you sign up, but also at all those moments when you come back to play again.
300 free spins or a €200 deposit bonus

The Whamoo welcome bonus

We start of discussing the Whamoo welcome bonus which is called the “Welcombo” bonus by the casino. On a picture the Welcombo might not look too appealing as its packed in a carton takeaway box you might get at a certain fast food restaurant, but trust us on this: its contents are truly fantastic.
The Welcombo box contains a combination of goodies you get with your very first deposit at Whamoo. And what is best of all? You can decide what combo you want to receive! If you sign up at Whamoo for a free online casino account, you can determine your own bonus by adjusting the slide until you have found a combination which matches your idea of a perfect bonus.
This is a great option as it allows people to choose the bonus which best suits them. You can choose between free spins and a deposit bonus – or a combination of both. If you are an avid video slot gamer and do not care much about table games, you may want to slide all the way to the maximum free spins bonus. In that case, you will receive 300 free spins, but your deposit bonus will be 0%. The free spins in the Welcombo package are valid on the popular Amatic Industries slot Book of Fortune.
On the other hand, if you only care about table games and are not really interested in free spins and playing video slots, you want to adjust the slide to the maximum deposit bonus. This is a 100% deposit bonus of up to 200 euro. This means that if you deposit 200 euro of your own money to your newly created online casino account, Whamoo will top this up by another 200 euro from the house! If you select the full 100% deposit bonus, you will however not receive any free spins at all.
Of course, you can also opt for a mix between free spins and a deposit bonus. If you leave the slider in the middle, you will get 150 free spins and a 50% deposit bonus, for example. You can tweak this in any direction you want, for example to a 70% deposit bonus and 90 free spins. The higher your deposit bonus, the less free spins you receive. Want more free spins? Then your deposit bonus will decrease.

Welcombo bonus terms and conditions

Only one bonus is allowed per household and/or per player account. Do note that Whamoo’s bonuses remain valid until seven days after the required deposit has been made. Once this period ends, the bonus is automatically flagged as expired by the system and can no longer be released. The expired bonus funds are then automatically removed from the player’s account.
Of course, there is a wagering requirement which must be met in order to withdraw your bonus money and any winnings which may derive from it. Real money balance is used prior to bonus balance. The bonus balance will only be used when there is no real money available in your account. Only real money funds and released bonus funds can contribute towards the wagering requirement of the bonus. The wagering requirement for the Welcombo deposit bonus and free spins is thirty times (30x) the deposit + bonus.
Do note that players that deposit money using Paysafecard, Skrill or Neteller are not eligible for the Welcombo. To assure fair gaming and prevent fraud, Whamoo has placed a maximum cap on bonus money wagers, which are limited to a maximum per round/bet of €5 or its equivalent in other currencies. You should also be aware that certain games cannot be played using bonus money. There is a full overview of these games on the Whamoo bonus page.
Bets placed in certain games might not contribute fully to the wagering requirements.

Recurring bonuses at Whamoo

The bonus fun does not stop at the welcome bonus when you play at Whamoo! You can count on a constant stream of promotional campaigns and bonus offers. The casino has recurring promo offers every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. If you deposit some extra money to your online casino bankroll on one of those days, you are eligible for a bonus. It therefore pays off to wait for these days before you decide to reload your online funds.
On Monday it is Pick ‘n’ Play day to start off the week with some good vibes. On this day, the casino basically tops up your deposited money You can:
It is even possible to combine these bonuses if you want to deposit a larger sum! Alternatively, you can use the bonus codes of WHPICK5, WHPICK15 and WHPICK35 by putting these into the promo code field on the cashier page every Monday.

Whoa Wednesday

Wednesday is for many a difficult day in the week, it being right in the middle of another long week of work. To spice up things, Whamoo has come with an unusual bonus which it calls “Whoa Wednesday”.
Every Wednesday you get to uncover your secret gift – for free, no strings attached. The casino will add this gift to your next deposit. This can be a bonus, a set of free spins, or even both. You’ll get all the details once you’ve pulled off the cover and logged into your account. You will receive the bonus details and promotional code, which you can use in the promo field at the payment page to receive your hard-earned Wednesday bonus.

Freeday bonus

Friday is the favourite day of the week for many people – and the reason why is quite obvious. It marks the end of another working week and the start of some well-deserved weekend R&R! For many people this involves paying a visit to a land-based or online casino to get their kicks at their favourite game, whether it is a card game, roulette or video slot.
Whamoo knows that many people cannot wait for the days off work to start and therefore has come up with a special Friday bonus to welcome in the weekend! This bonus day is called ‘Freeday’ by Whamoo. The casino basically hands you a bunch of free spins if you are a regular customer. For every weekday from the previous week (Friday through Thursday) that you’ve deposited 30 euro or more, you get 10 free spins. For every weekend day you even get 20 Free Spins! That means up to 90 Free Spins are yours to play with. That’s a great start to a weekend full of partying and fun!

Wagering requirements

Do note that wagering requirements do apply to all daily promo offers. These are more or less the same as we outlined above in the description of the welcome package, but do take a look at the bonus terms and conditions page on the Whamoo website to know precisely what you can expect! As always, it is important to read the small print in order not to face any surprises later on.

A fully mobile compatible casino

As a brand new online casino, Whamoo knows that already a majority of gamblers nowadays play on their mobile phones rather than on computers. Because of this, the Whamoo casino is fully compatible with mobile devices and tablets. If you load the Whamoo website on your smartphone, it looks just as good as on your laptop of computer. It’s equally accessible and orderly too! The mobile website is a breeze to browse through and you can easily access all the important pages such as the game library and payment page.
The same counts for the actual games themselves. Whamoo only works with software providers which are known to offer full mobile gaming support. These games are made in code such as HTML5, which means that the games can simply be played in your (mobile) internet browser. There is no download or special app required to play these games. Whether you are playing on your computer, tablet or smartphone, you simply surf to Whamoo.com and select your favourite game from the library. This game will then open in your internet browser – and you can play instantly. It does not matter whether your phone runs on Android or is an iPhone, nor does it matter whether you have Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, Opera, Safari or any other internet browser. Whamoo will function just fine!
This is absolutely great as you can now play at Whamoo wherever you are, whenever you want. Want to put down some wagers on the roulette table while you are sitting in public transport on your way to work? That’s easily doable! Just take out your smartphone on the train or bus, and surf to Whamoo.com to play at your favourite roulette table. Are you sitting on your couch at home and want to play a few hands of blackjack before going to sleep? Just take out your laptop, tablet or phone and within seconds you can have some of the most exhilarating blackjack fun on your screen.

The Whamoo Live Casino

Whamoo’s live casino is powered by Pragmatic Play and NetEnt software – which are two of the biggest, most reputable software providers in the world. This is great news for the players, as you can access high quality tables in just a few clicks.
In the live casino, you are connected with a live video feed to a real-time casino table in one of the casino studios of these software providers. You can play games like baccarat, blackjack and roulette like you are standing in a real land-based casino in Vegas or Monaco! Thanks to the high definition video stream, you have a great overview of all the action which unfolds on and around the table.
All table games are led by experienced, professional croupiers and dealers who are not only well-trained, but entertaining as well. By all means, feel free to open your microphone or the chat window to have a talk with them, or even with other players from around the world. This is what makes the live casino such a great invention. Even though you might be sitting at home in front of your laptop or computer, it does almost feel like you are standing in a casino for real!
Especially for high rollers the live casino is a worthwhile addition as table limits are often much higher than in regular games. Of course, if you are on a tight budget there will definitely be live casino tables where low minimum bets are allowed too – no worries there. But it is the experienced, high stakes gambler who probably feels most at home in the live casino.
There are multiple baccarat, blackjack and roulette variants which you can play. For roulette, there is American Roulette, European Roulette, French Roulette, Speed Roulette, Live Roulette Auto and Roulette Macao Live. If you prefer the casino classic of blackjack, you will find plenty of different tables all with slightly different betting limits. Baccarat is perhaps the game with the highest betting limit. Besides the regular version, there are also Speed Baccarat tables. A fourth casino game which can be played live at the Whamoo Live Casino is Sic Bo. Just browse through the list of live casino games, or use the search function to find your favourite table!

🦆 How to Quit your Hagwon Job 🦆

🦆 How to Quit your Hagwon Job 🦆
Another source here.
🦆🦆🦆🦆 Getting your ducks in a row before quitting your Hagwon job. Don't be rash, remember: P.O.O.P.: People Organize before they Opt to Pull-out. You'll always remember this, because, ironically, Hagwons ARE the poop jobs in Korea, so there's some continuity there.

https://preview.redd.it/p2x3fz0bsga61.jpg?width=445&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a74c69d23b468dd7a374f7bf098426db7147978
🦆 If you are thinking about quitting your Hagwon job, there is no true recipe book for getting this done. Each situation is unique with many changing variables such as your money supply, assets available to you, willing family members back home, Hagwon owner personality. I'll advise you about the process, but the finer details, procedure, I can't do, because I've never had to do some of the things you might have to.
👁 Hindsight. You should not have taken a Hagwon job, I hope you realize that now. They dig their claws into you, and got you by the balls on everything, or ovaries respectively.
👁 You should have recorded on video, all details regarding the contract and get them on tape lying to you about your work hours, vacation, salary etc, so that getting away from them and getting sympathy from the government is about 50% easier, as it's also legally binding. I talked about that here.
👁 This is why you don't bring a pet, 2 huge suitcases and a carry-on. 5 changes of clothes for work, 2 sets of shoes and a laptop + necessities, and that's it. Travel light, it's an unstable job.
👁 You should have a credit card with enough room for an emergency plane ticket back home, or beg your parents to bail you out.
👁 You should have your banking app installed BEFORE you leave. It's I.P. sensitive, and may not even be able to search for it, then download it, from Korea.
-------------------------------------------------
🦆 Find alternative housing. No matter what they tell you, they will kick your rear end out on the street and change the locks at the most opportune time. Probably the day you tell them you are quitting, they'll turn around and fire you out of anger, surprising you in the process. "Loyalty" is a one-way street in Korea, and it's extremely important to them. So when you are "disloyal" they will get revenge.
🦆 The best thing is to bunk up with another foreign teacher that will give you permission to stay for a little while. It won't cost you money. You can fight for your paycheck or change your Visa status then. So, secretly stay with a co-worker, or you should have invested in a relationship with another foreigner for this occasion.
🦆 You may need help from a friendly Korean to translate your needs. I doubt a sympathetic Korean co-worker will help. If you are Christian, I'd highly suggest joining a church and get cozy with them, they'll help, I know, I've gotten help from church people in a pinch.
🦆 Stay at a cheap motel. 여관 (Yuh-Gwan). Naver maps shows the location of them. There is another option for monthly stay, sort of like a hostel called a 고시원 (Go She Won). It's about 1/2 an efficiency apartment size. Cheap, but basically a broom closet. For a Yuh-Gwan, I'd have your friend translate a reduction in price if you stay for 2 weeks. They are hurting for money, they'll do it.
🦆 You have 2 weeks to inform the local gu office of your new residence. If you are going to be in the country for more than 2 weeks looking for a job or getting your pay, you need to update them, it's free. Past 2 weeks, the fines increase.
-------------------------------------------------
🦆 Get free help, and legal advice. There are a surprising number of resources available for foreigners (here). Very gently and pleasantly call and ask about your situation before trouble starts, then when it does, call back and verify. Where is the immigration office in your area? Do you have an I.D. and password for immigration online so you can make an appointment? Can you speak to someone in English there. What paperwork needs to be filled out, is there a link online so you can download it?
🦆 Ask about extending your stay to fight for your pay. You can get a 2 week extension for travel, or switch to a D-10 (looking for work). Ask about these options, you can't overstay your Visa even if it's not your fault. The back of your ARC must be current when you depart from the airport when you turn it in, and you MUST turn in your ARC. If the dates are wrong, you have a choice to go back and get a stamp making it current, (and miss your flight) or they can deport you and you may have trouble coming back. You don't want a deportation order on your passport, or having it in some world data-base somewhere making it hard to travel to other countries.
-------------------------------------------------
🦆 Your final pay: they have 14 days to pay you, from your last day (by law), and cancel your Visa. They don't, the penalties are absolutely crushing. The Dept. of Labor has special arresting powers. They can arrest the owner, put them in jail, and fine them $20,000. Don't threaten them with this, they'll laugh in your face. The agent at the Dept. of Labor will make them cry on the phone, I know, I went through this before. They delayed for 20 days, then when confronted by an agent, they paid me within the hour. It's about rank. You don't have any. Only a person with rank makes them quiver in fear. It's a dare, if you can find someone to force them to pay you, they'll pay, otherwise, they'll keep it. Spend your time finding that agency, don't bother with the Hagwon owner, they are crazy. So if you are going to stay and fight for it, predict that they'll delay for the full 14 days, and if they are stupid enough to incriminate themselves by openly breaking the law, expect to stay a little longer after filing a complaint.
👁 Hindsight. Did you get the owners official business card on your first day of employment? You should have, you'll need to hand deliver that with your complaint when you need to.
-------------------------------------------------
🦆 When you are ready to quit, demand a Certificate of Employment rather than a Letter of Release to transfer your work Visa to another employer. This is iffy, and I've never done it. It's something to ask at one of the help lines. Ask 3 difference sources, if 2/3 give you the same answer, that's probably the correct answer. It should have just facts only: title of company, dates of employment, signature, official ink stamp, telephone number, no personal opinions. I'd also check to see if you can transfer your Visa at any time or must you work for your employer for a minimum of 3 months before you are eligible for a C.O.E. You never know what loopholes there are.
🦆 A deal with the devil. Getting your release, but under terrible circumstances. So they will allow you to quit with a 60 day notice (that was nice of them), but you have to: find your replacement, pay back recruiter fees, stay on 90 days instead of 60, etc etc, THEN they will give you a Letter of Release. Of course, you know what's going to happen.....yep, you'll do all of it, then when your replacement comes in, they'll fire you and not give you a Letter of Release. Pretty big gamble to assume lying, incompetent scumbags will suddenly have a change of heart and not be scumbags isn't it? Have them give you a Letter of Release dated on the day you are leaving, which is not valid until that time, THEN you will stay a little bit longer and comply. What's the harm? You can't use it for another 90 days, so if you do run off, you have to survive without a job until that time, and they can cancel the Visa.
🦆 Do not agree verbally or in writing you will pay back anything. Recruiting / Visa / Immigration / Health check fees, nothing. "Pay now, sue later" that's the law. They MUST pay you your full salary NOW, and if they have reason to recoup some of it, the courts decide that, not revengeful Hagwon owners who will make excuses to steal all of it.
👁 Hindsight. You should have made sure you get an electronic pay stub to your email every month, IN ENGLISH to verify all deductions. None of this, "Administrative fees" garbage, that's what they use to take you out for dinner every month, at your expense. Anything missing from your salary is to be reported to the government.
🦆 A dirty trick. What you can do is, agree to pay back all of their ridiculous fees, get your Letter of Release, go to another employer, and then file a complaint for salary theft with the government and get all your money back. The law still applies to them, courts make those decisions, not Hagwon owners. Is it legal to willingly give your money to a mugger with a gun to your head and let them run off with it? No, it's still illegal whether you gave it to them or they ripped it from your hands. Just don't sign anything or be caught on audio agreeing to it, or email, and even so, the law still applies. "Pay now, sue later."
-------------------------------------------------
🦆 Get your rent deposit back. They'll huff and puff and stomp around and be difficult, but you must get this back. I talk about how to get it in 15 minutes or less here. It's natural to break up by some angry blow up, throw things, storm out the door. You need to evict that evil impulse from your heart. Instead, replace it with an even worse evil: a cold-blooded emotionless psychopath that absolutely is unmoved and undeterred by the emotional histrionics likely to be thrown at you--basically mirroring your employer. They want to make you so miserable and afraid, you'll skip out on what they owe you. Just keep showing up at their office like Jason Voorhees and hiss, "I want my money back now." And just stare at them, unmoved, an unreasonable automaton that will not stop, will not give in, will not be swayed by emotion or trickery, give me my money! You'll be surprised how good Koreans are at acting. They'll threaten, throw themselves on the floor and bite their pillow in anger, and when you are unmoved, they'll get up and sigh, "Ok.....that didn't work, we'll be there after 12 to check you out of your apartment, just wait for us.." Don't look ashamed or shy, confident and bold, make THEM feel ashamed and awkward. Practice in the mirror with daggers shooting out of your eyes. Do they look steely and cold or doe-eyed and scared? Are you looking away or down, or staring at some point on their forehead ready to throw-down at any second? Look at Mike Tyson's face before a fight when the referee is giving instructions. Yeah, he's communicating something isn't he. It's a non-verbal arm wrestling match, win it.
👁 Hindsight. You should have inserted language in your contract stipulating on your last day of employment, you are checking out of your apartment, cancelling internet, phone services etc. Never agree to leave money on the table, and trust that they'll forward your money within 45 days of your last day of employment. One of the stupidest and illogical things foreigners agree to.
👁 Every scratch, broken, dented, discolored this or that needs to be recorded with your phone, pictures taken and WRITTEN on the contract you sign verifying those things existed when the got there, if not, they'll charge you for them. Video tape what appliances are there. They say there was a microwave and there isn't, they'll charge you for a stolen microwave.
🦆 Get your pension even after you leave the country. (here)
-------------------------------------------------
🦆 Never quit. "Have you ever quit a job or broken a contract?" Answer: no. Fired, yes, and the employer broke the contract, not me. This is the most exquisite time you'll ever have at a job, knowing you don't care anymore, cut corners, be lazy, confront your manager at meetings, get sassy, challenge everything, piss people off you really want to piss off. I have no idea why people cut and run, when there is this precious time to teach however you want to teach, ignore complaints, be lazy, play games, take a few sick days and relax and be lazy, and still get paid for it....be lazy. They treated you like trash, what's wrong with a little juicy pay-back? "Yeah, I'm pretty busy as it is, that sounds kinda dumb, who's terrible idea is this anyway?" No filter man, just go with it. "Saturday? I'm an hourly employee, what's the pay? Is it regular or overtime pay? No pay? Then I ain't coming in. I'm not a slave. You don't pay me, I don't work, that's the deal! Since when do hourly employees work for free? Never heard of that. Oh, it's part of my regular pay? Then I'm SALARIED, not hourly, you lied to me!!!" If you are a Midnight Runner, even better! Take your maximum days off with "migraines" get aspirin, stay home. Go into work being a total jerk with your bags packed in another foreigner's apartment, get fired, THEN leave.
Make sure your 🦆🦆🦆 are in a row, bags packed, moved out, and ready for inspection, Visa extension papers are ready to be turned in before you are ready to set the bridge on fire at this stage. It's up to you how you do this, BUT, if they fire you, generally they need to give you 3 reprimands (which you don't sign) and 30 days notice as stipulated in the contract, and by law. If they don't do this, and the government gets involved, they look terrible. If you quit, it's all YOUR fault. No never quit! Make them fire you. That's WHY they harass foreigners out at the 9 month mark to save money. If you fall for it, quit and run off, they win and keep your cash or likely get government sympathy. You stand firm and ignore their harassment, laugh in their face and force them to fire you, you win and THEY broke the contract.
🦆 A dirty trick. You make them aware, that if they are setting the stage to fire you, you are going to sit around and be the LAZIEST most uncooperative employee they have ever seen, and still have to pay you for the next 30 days, OR they can release you now, and simply pay you what you earned, rent deposit refund etc, and you willingly leave quietly as soon as possible. I did this before, and they agreed. Negotiate! You take the mask off their whole strategy. They'd prefer to harass you out of a job, and hope you run away, but when you tell them you're on to it, and you are going to stay, be a nuisance and still get paid, then file complaints if you don't, they'll just pay you to get rid you. You are now almost totally ungovernable. No threats of Letter of Release, good job recommendation, passive-aggressive behavior will be effective. You'll ignore their complaints, teach classes how you want, put your feet up on your desk and doze off in your free time, and there is nothing they can do about it. In this strict face-saving culture, do you think they want you to openly insult and undermine their authority in front of the staff, parents, and children? I'll bet they don't. They don't want these daily confrontations in which they can't win. Best to kick you out the door with whatever you are asking to save-face rather than deal with an anarchist.
🦆 A dirty trick II. You tell them, once you are safely out of the country, you are going to send an email (that you had access to) to all of the parents detailing how bad of a company it is. You'll have it translated in Korean back home, and they can just TRY to sue for defamation in a foreign court, losing a ton of money in the process. Then you'll post a Youtube video telling the world all about it. They may have strict defamation laws, but in a Western country, they are invalid, freedom of speech laws apply and are extremely powerful.
🦆 They'll call the police. "Ok, great, I'll wait here for them." Calmly stand there and record the whole thing on your phone. Why run away? You look guilty. Stay there, talk to them. "We will tell them you molested kids unless you run away and leave us all your money!" "Ok, I'll just stay here to defend myself, AND you are going to pay me anyway. Even pedophiles are lawfully owed their salary. You ain't gettin' it!" Good thing you recorded that on your phone to exonerate yourself right? RIGHT!? You did take my advice to record everything didn't you? You better! There are no innocent or off-the-record meetings, you record and bring a foreigner with you as a witness, they often have a fellow Korean in the meeting, why can't you?
If the Hagwon suddenly has details that you touched a child and threatens to call the police, you know it's fraud. For one thing, wouldn't a parent take their child to the police station right away, then they would come and arrest you without notice? Why would the Hagwon know about this and have any determining factor about it? They make it sound like they have a special secret and can choose to prosecute or not based on how fast you can get to the airport. And besides, what child and family would support a lie to the police and all the way through the court system knowing they are committing perjury? If you fled the country, and you actually were guilty, you could be extradited back anyway. It's all a very common Hagwon lie to save some money.
-------------------------------------------------
🦆 Don't you see the monstrous trap they are setting you up for? In any situation, whether it's some financial deal like an investment, a relationship, a job, a proposition, a contract, an agreement, a group tour somewhere, the most important question you should have from the start is, "How can I get out of it if it goes south?" Always remember:

Ready to dive in?
In 2020, according to recent email marketing stats, roughly 306 billion emails were sent and received daily with the number predicted (and expected) to increase in 2024 to over 361 billion daily emails. For an email marketer, these stats are drool-worthy. Yet, with a lot of recipients simply skipping emails without bothering to open them or worse, reporting them as spam, email marketers must find new and engaging ways to capture their target audience attention.
Your old email campaign templates have probably worked pretty well so far delivering a satisfactory ROI, but… why settle for good when you can have great results. Thus, take your email marketing campaign to the next level by crafting eye-catching, creative, high converting emails that will motivate your recipients to take immediate action. How? By drawing inspiration from email campaign examples that have proven to be successful.

Top 10 Amazing Email Campaign Examples

You’ve been sending and receiving emails for years. In fact, you have most certainly received some quite questionable and poorly designed emails in your inbox. Whether such email marketing campaigns were unexpected, uninformative or had subject lines with some disturbing formatting such as “uRgEnt SAle – ONly toDAY!!!!”, I bet you didn’t even hesitate to delete them or report them as spam, I am right?
Email has managed to stand the test of time, yet some email marketers fail to update their email marketing strategies to ensure email campaigns will warrant the recipients’ precious time and attention. If you want to stand out and shine in the inbox then you will certainly have to carefully think through your email campaign’s design – from grid layout through the subject line to content and call-to-action (CTA). Your target audience plays a crucial role in the overall look and feel of your email marketing campaign, so don’t forget about those precious subscribers/clients when browsing through and adapting one (or more) of these top 10 email campaign examples that convert.

1) Medium

Medium.com’s “Daily Digest” email campaign is the perfect example of an excellent, highly-personalised email marketing campaign. The five elements making this campaign the epitome of “the most wanted” email are –
1) personalisation based on the users’ preferences and interests 2) a featured article that also matches the subject line 3) recipients are given a heads-up on the read-time 4) the author recognition offers a more personal feel 5) categorisation of content makes it easy to scan

2) PayPal

https://preview.redd.it/vmtx0pow63c61.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=de7639cdc1a4c276bf94b1ed18d28eb4906535a7
PayPal’s email contains many elements recipients will love seeing in an email campaign. The opening copy is not only clever and concise but the overall concept reflects a relatable benefit of using the company’s service. Furthermore, both call-to-actions are strategically placed and emphasise on providing further information about the service.
Imagine this – “You are having a nice time catching up with friends over some mouth-watering food, however, when the bill comes everyone starts fussing about paying it.” This is such a common pain-point and PayPal’s tapping into it by piquing the interest of the recipients with an easy solution – the PayPal app.

3) Evernote

https://preview.redd.it/xbrrmvxx63c61.png?width=330&format=png&auto=webp&s=39c10430c9ba7b60075ed6f8c4ad2a7b35f1f076
First thing Evernote users receive when they sign up to the service is a welcome email which advises the recipient to download the product app. This email campaign example has a clean and simple design, to-the-point copy, sticks to the company’s style, a clear call-to-action (CTA) and acts as a continuation of the conversation that the user started when visiting the website and signing up for the service. Evernote generated more than 200M users, proving this email campaign design works.

4) Trello

https://preview.redd.it/vn795kdz63c61.png?width=511&format=png&auto=webp&s=002a06dbd445af8d472010dadde526f26887889b
An email campaign without a call-to-action (CTA) is like an email marketer who doesn’t send marketing campaigns – unthinkable. Therefore, make sure every email marketing campaign includes at least one call-to-action. However, stay away from boring, overused CTA button copy such as “read more” or “click here”. Instead, go for a catchy, fun, action-driven, unique and relevant copy as Trello did in their campaign. For example, if you want to drive more email sign-ups rather than using “signup here” get more creative (but don’t do it simply for creativity’s sake) with something like “Be Smarter” or “Learn Our Secrets” or “Join The Troops”.
Did you notice the neat, simple design? It’s easy to navigate, gives the reader exactly what they need without annoying them and provides highly-relevant information.

5) Mint (Intuit’s personal finance app)

https://preview.redd.it/m019qf8173c61.png?width=204&format=png&auto=webp&s=d8ea99f97a858ac50e7ec54a5012815add12c0ff
Mint’s email marketing campaign is an excellent example of a successful campaign for two reasons –
1) a catchy headline – the word “credit” scares most people and when you read it in an email it will certainly give you pause.“How much do I really know about my credit?”, “Are credit myths fooling me?” – all questions arise from reading one simple word poking at the recipient’s curiosity and that’s exactly why they will open and engage with the email.
2) no overwhelming zig-zag design elements just clean, simple lines – Mint’s use of colour pops and high-quality imagery in precisely on-brand and perfectly reflects the simplicity of the platform. The visuals which are highly-relative to the topic of the email help complete the overall feel of the campaign.

6) Artifact Uprising

https://preview.redd.it/4riexgh273c61.png?width=245&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab851f50341ec761aae52147e033a4ff25394c3e
Artifact Uprising’s email campaign is a shining example of breaking the boring email design mould. By utilising one of the top email marketing trends for 2021– the broken grid layout, the company not only succeeds at creating a compressed replica of their website’s style but also delivers a relevant message that’s on par with the company’s branding.
The three reasons why this email campaign example works are –
1) branding is consistent – successful branding does not always need big bold letters, screaming colours and a gigantic logo. In their email marketing campaign, Artifact Uprising uses fonts and imagery throughout the body which are directly pulled from the guide that’s being promoted. This approach creates a seamless experience for the reader as they scroll and click-through the email campaign.
2) hooks readers with descriptive copy – every section in the layout with an image is complemented by concise, easily digestible copy. The clever part of the campaign is the fact the email promotes a guide offering 6 Tips To Photograph Spring, however, the email only has two tips leaving the recipient hungry to know more. No one likes the Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) and Artifact Uprising is creating a sense of urgency which inspires immediate action.
3) perfectly placed call-to-action – three completely different, yet quite obvious CTAs are sprinkled throughout the copy. All with the same goal, inspiring the recipient to get the guide giving them more than one chance to do so.

7) Rothy’s

https://i.redd.it/ukuspv7b73c61.gif
Rothy’s promotional email to people who’ve opted-in to the company’s marketing correspondence but have yet to make a purchase is yet another amazing email campaign example that works. There are two distinct reasons why this email campaign example stands out –
1) not only is there an animated element at the top of the campaign, but the GIF in the body taps into most peoples’ default response to SMS/direct messages – they simply can’t resist temptation and have to read them.
2) the campaign utilises actual names, genuine and authentic conversational elements and images (i.e. the kitty) that look and feel as you’re eavesdropping on someone’s conversation. A sense of curiosity creates a sense of urgency and a desire to know which, to have a successful email campaign, is exactly what you need and Rothy’s have nailed it.

8) Beardbrand

https://preview.redd.it/c1z14skc73c61.png?width=537&format=png&auto=webp&s=798d969547b6ffc68f4cb5776b07c853285d728c
Dormant email lists with little to no engagement can be harmful and bring no value to your business. Yet, Beardbrand has found an original, creative and unique way to re-engage inactive subscribers and bring the brand at the top of the subscribers’ minds.
The subject line of the re-engagement campaign “How fast can you grow?” is enough to pique the recipient’s interest. (I certainly would have opened it if I had a beard!) Furthermore, rather than focusing on the fact people have been inactive for two or three months, the brand built its re-engagement email campaign on the simple fact that “human hair grows about 0.5 inches a month” followed by “your beard grew 1.5 inches since your last visit.”
This smooth and unique approach allows the brand to outline the recipient’s inactivity without the guilt-trip. Afterwards, Beardbrand swiftly changes the topic to their products with a clever twist – “While you can’t make your hair grow faster, you can make it healthier.” Shockingly, the key to healthy hair is……? You guessed it, Beardbrand’s products.
Once the smooth engaging intro has piqued the subscriber’s interest, the brand goes for the gold and wraps up their re-engagement email by showcasing product recommendations –
https://preview.redd.it/5ajv6z7e73c61.png?width=675&format=png&auto=webp&s=34f2bbb2e45d3ad0850413766b34881822d34260
Yet, instead of using a boring CTA like “Recommended Products”, the brand triggers the recipients’ FOMO with a brilliant call-to-action – “Check out what I’ve missed.”

9) J.Crew Factory

https://preview.redd.it/3cszerlf73c61.png?width=507&format=png&auto=webp&s=0ab673ae2b902f53a4100a14ae0afaabc538b9c0
For many of us, present wrapping poses a huge struggle. J. Crew Factory noticed and recognised this pain-point and subsequently, created an email marketing campaign offering a solution to all those DIYers who can’t pull off a Pinterest-professional wrap job – gift cards.
The email’s design is clean and concise, offers two options for picking up gift cards (two clear CTAs) and lowers the purchasing barrier even further by including a map of the nearest store location at the bottom of the email. There is even a discount. What could be more enticing than that?

10) Cards Against Humanity

https://preview.redd.it/orrm1jjg73c61.png?width=516&format=png&auto=webp&s=7701da772840089bc3b74bbe003437ddf168c81c
This might be an old Black Friday email campaign example by Card Against Humanity, yet it’s pure brilliance and I couldn’t stop myself from sharing it with you. It’s exceptionally sarcastic, completely insane, cynical and, to say the least, quite unusual type of email campaign to send out BUT… it grabbed your attention when you read it, didn’t?
What’s even more unusual is that the company is announcing its online store will be closed for Black Friday. Moreover, they are asking recipients to give them money for no apparent reason via a call-to-action that’s completely against email design best practices.
Did this email campaign succeed? It did. It turned out the company (also known for its charitable fundraising) managed to raise $71,145 by offering absolutely nothing. The follow-up campaign revealed where all those donated money went. So, were people giving money for nothing? You can read more about this awesome email campaign here.

Final Thoughts

Occasionally, even the best and brightest of email marketers can get stuck while crafting a perfect design for an email marketing campaign. If you’ve reached this far then you’ve checked out all the email campaign examples. Did you notice anything?
Some of the email campaign examples had a great copy, others were all about design, and then some were simply brilliant and quite entertaining from top to bottom. There is not one single simple and amazing way to create a great email marketing campaign. What worked for all those companies in the email campaign examples listed may not work for you. It’s trial and error. However, it always pays off to follow best practices and A/B test your email campaigns before you unleash them into the world.
Regardless of your goals, there is always room for improvement. For some of you, it’d be small tweaks to the design, for others – top-notch copywriting. No matter what needs improvement, all these email campaign examples aim to get your creative juices flowing and inspire you to create a campaign that will convert – and perhaps even be featured in one of EmailOut’s upcoming articles.

Your 2020 Season Survival Guide and R/Baseball Refresher!

Before we dive in, if you want to participate in the annual Call Your Shot season predictions contest, you can find it here.
It's FINALLY coming! Welcome to the 2020 MLB Season! We are so glad you are here. Don't let the length of this post scare you, we just wanted to consolidate all the relevant information that people have questions about into one place to start the season off. This is your survival guide for the 2020 season, it should have all the pertinent information to answer most of your questions!
If you are a brand new fan I'd recommend going through most of it, if you're a veteran you'll know which sections you'll want to read by their headings. My goal here is that both new and returning fans can learn how to better enjoy the season and know what's going on on Baseball this year. Okay, take some time and read through what you want to read through below!
This is the fourth year of doing this. Every year I go through the previous years comments to find things that should be added or corrected for the next edition, so if you have any great resources or information that you think would be beneficial to add, please comment it below!
Sections:

Introduction for new and renewed interest fans.

Baseball normally has a long season. I don't just mean that in terms of time between opening day and the World Series (which can be considered long as it is), but also the 162 games played in 183 days, 18-20 times against the same 4 teams each. It can be daunting, and many people lose interest by "the dog days" of June and July. This year things are going to be a little different. With only 60 games on the schedule (assuming we make it through without a major clubhouse covid outbreak that cancels games versus that team) every game is going to matter about 3x as much as one in a normal regular season. Tensions will be high, but we might not feel it because there won't be that much crowd noise. THAT SAID - they're still playing 60 games in 66 days, which means almost every day for the next two months isn't just packed with baseball, they're packed with YOUR FAVORITE TEAMS baseball, which while exciting after months without any American sports in the regular season (MLS - a tournament is not the regular season) can end up feeling overwhelming when you just finished watching a late game go into extras then wake up to realize there's an afternoon game on in six hours.
This guide is meant to help you if you wish to avoid being one of those who feels overwhelmed and loses interest a couple weeks after Opening Day.
First and foremost if you are a new fan or newly returning, you must remember one thing: you do not need to watch every game. Many football fans, and even some basketball and hockey fans, find this difficult, they're used to setting aside a few nights a week to watch their team, and they can watch all the games. Baseball isn't like that. For the next two months, your team will only have 6 days where they won't be playing a game. And some of the games they play will start as early as 9:20am (Pacific Time), others will end after 1am (Eastern Time). If you miss a game it's okay, odds are there's another one tomorrow. If you miss a week, no big deal, hell if you get busy for a few months and aren't able to watch you team, that's not an issue, because you can still follow your team.
Baseball is a game to be followed. In the old days it meant picking up the morning paper and checking the box scores. Now it means being able to have a final score texted/tweeted/messaged/emailed/what-evered to you the minute the game ends, or rolling over in bed when you can't sleep and grabbing your phone to check the West Coast scores. It means being able to check reddit in the morning to see any breaking news from across the league, or catch a story you missed. We live in a time where you can go to MLB.com and get a recap of every game from last night in less than 10 minutes. Honestly, baseball was made to be consumed, and the technology age makes it easier than ever, whether you want to spend hours every day pouring over stats and analysis, or 15 seconds to see how your team and their playoff rivals did today.
The rest of this guide is mostly dedicated to ways that you can help yourself follow your team, and if you have time follow the entirety of MLB.
Anyways, enough rambling, TL;DR Don't worry if you miss games, there'll be one tomorrow.

Rule Changes for 2020

For this season only (or so they say...):
  • The NL will utilize the DH full time.
  • In extra innings the person in the batting order immediately before the lead off hitter will start on second base.
  • Games suspended due to rain will continue play at a later date rather than be washed out and restarted.
  • Arguing within six feet of an umpire or participating in a fight will be met with heftier fines and suspensions this yaer.
  • Pitchers will be allowed a wet rag to be brought out from the dugout in lieu of being able to lick their fingers for better grip.
  • Each team has a 20 extra players in their "taxi squad" in addition to their active roster and 40-man roster.
  • Active rosters will start at 30 players, then will be cut to 28 after two weeks, then 26 after four weeks.
  • Spitting is not allowed.
  • Non-social distanced celebrations are not allowed.
Permanent (as any rule change can be in baseball) rule changes for 2020 and beyond:
  • Three batter minimum - pitcher entering the game must face a minimum of three batters unless they complete an inning.
  • The MLB Active Roster is expanded from 25 players to 26 players.

Finding a Team

I always recommend following the local team since you'll have more access to news about them in the local media and should be able to get their radio broadcast, as well as TV broadcasts of them if you have cable/satellite/streaming, and depending on where you're at the occasional over the air game, but if you don't live by a team or don't want to follow the local team, or are just looking for a second team to follow, I wrote this in depth guide to picking a team that's the right fit for you.

Knowing Where Different Teams Stand

Every year ESPN, Sports Illustrated, FOX, NBS, and every other sports related site puts out their season previews. These are great for getting a basic rundown of what is going on with each team, and a simple google search will bring up a plethora of possible articles to read.
If what you really want is a fans perspective on what each team's expectations condensed into a few short comments, I'd highly recommend going through each teams day from our annual "Why will X team exceed expectations?" series. All the previous posts are linked in the Astros thread.

Baseball

Alright, so plugging baseball on baseball seems a bit redundant, but I think it's a good reminder that this is a great hub for all your MLB news throughout the season while still letting you see the occasional amazing college/minor league/foreign league performance.
During the season there are a number of features to keep you informed of all the goings on around baseball.
Every day of the season (and a portion of the offseason) we have General Discussion threads we call Around the Horn. These are great places to ask questions and discuss anything that you want to know about baseball but don't feel like it deserves it's own post. In the Around the Horn post you'll be able to see a full schedule of what is going on around Baseball every week.
Here are the weekly features:
Daily: Nightly Pick'Em - A six year running contest to pick the result of one game every day. Details can be found in this thread.
Monday: Power Rankings - A team of 30 fans from every team in baseball, led by masochist fearless leader kasutori_jack, releases their composite power rankings of the 30 teams. This leads to well thought out discussions and some in depth analysis, as well as salty fans crying about how their team is underrated (there may be more of the latter than the former, but it's still a great way to keep your finger on the pulse of how every team is doing).
Monday (Unofficial) - The last few years thekmanpwnudwn has posted a State of the Subreddits post that gives the top post from each team's subreddit from the last week. This is a great roundup post for staying up to date on what all the different team fandoms are feeling, and helps you catch any milestones you might have otherwise missed.
Tuesday: Weekly Awards - Led by lemcoe9 a different team of a fan from every team releases the results of their weekly (and monthly) voting for who the best position player and pitcher was since the last vote was taken. Once again, a great way to keep track of which players are on hot streaks, and who's dominating the league.
Wednesday: Wild Card Wednesday - Each week a new contest, trivia game, or just out of the box fun thread will be stickied! Got an idea? Let the mods know!
Thursdays: Division Discussions - We rotate between the Easts, Centrals, and Wests to do some more in depth talk about where the playoff races and teams stand. If you only have time for one baseball thread every week and want to keep up with the league, this is the thread to set aside time for.
Friday: Trash Talk/Compliment/Complaint - FRIDAYS ARE FUN DAYS, WE ROTATE BETWEEN TRASH TALK, COMPLIMENT, TRASH TALK, AND COMPLAIN THREADS! TRADITION STATES ALL COMMENTS BE IN ALL CAPS AND ENDING IN EXCLAMATION POINTS! WE ROTATE RATHER THAN HAVE A SET DAY FOR EACH ALL SEASON BECAUSE IT'S A LONG SEASON AND ANY ONE OF THE THREE THREADS CAN GET STALE FAST IF YOU DON'T LEAVE TIME FOR MORE AMMUNITION!
Saturday: Saturday is when we usually plug in occasional things that don't necessarily deserve weekly attention. Things like in depth stat discussions, memorobilia sharing, craft projects, etc.
Sunday: Game of the Week - Sunday is the one day a week where we get together as a subreddit to watch a baseball game together, since it's the one time every week where there's only one game going on and there's guaranteed to be a game. The Sunday Night Baseball game thread is usually posted a couple hours before the first pitch.
In addition the playoffs, and select premier match-ups (mostly at the very end of the season where there is a lot riding on a regular season game) we host game threads for all baseball users. These are neutral thread, for more info on less neutral ones skip to the next section. We may experiment with game threads in baseball for the MLB.tv Free Game of the Day this year.
In addition to all these features, it really is a great place to keep up with breaking news and highlights. It'll be posted here minutes after someone tweets it, and long before it's on MLB.com. Team beat writers get the stories first, and it's easier to check in here a couple times a day than follow every one of them. Plus there's something the kids are calling "dank memes" (but not too many, because us mods don't allow too much moisture to get into the servers).

Your Team's Subreddit (And other team subs as well)

The mods at baseball have one goal - help you have the best possible reddit baseball experience, and a LOT of that is helping you get connected to other fans of your team (which feels a little like a cop-out because it means less work for us if you're doing more on your team's sub, but your team's mods aren't complaining.)
One of the main draws of team subs (other than in depth discussion with like-fan-minded users, getting breaking news and analysis on your team, team-memes, and other reddit discussions that come up from a group of individuals who can agree on one thing) are game threads. At this time (to the best of my knowledge) every team sub hosts game threads for their team's games, and you can easily access them in the sidebar during the season by clicking on the team's logo in the schedule (we're working on getting that up to speed, MLB changed some parts of their RSS and background data and we've had to work around that to get our automated system back up). We like to keep the game threads in team subs for a few reasons, one of which is we want to support the team subs and send them relevant traffic when we can because they really do an amazing job, another is because with 15 games a day this place would look like crap if we had game threads for every game or let users post them as they please (we've tried it, it blots out news, discussion, and highlights and looks like crap, baseball doesn't have only a couple days set aside for games or focus on marquee match ups like many other sports, it's 2430 games played in 183 days and is better when it's spread out.)
Even if you're not a game thread person though, getting connected with a good team sub can make disappointing seasons more bearable, and great seasons more exciting, and I know plenty of users that said that their team's sub basically keeps them fans. Team subs are also a great place to get connected to...

Twitter, Podcasts, and other General News/Analysis Sources

Going to be honest here, I don't use twitter and I do not frequently read other people's blogs. I know many people do and enjoy it, and I believe the best way to find the people to follow/sites to visit that interest you the most are to hang around your team's sub and note which Tweets/Sites that are linked to that most often peak your interest. Your list of favorite baseball writers is going to be different than my favorite list, and finding the right twitter personalities, podcasts hosts, and bloggers can make game analysis more interesting for you even if your team is playing like crap and it's the middle of July.
Here are some common suggestions for some general baseball twitter accounts and podcasts to get you started, but like I said, find what you like and follow those:

The Statistical Titans: Baseball Reference and Fangraphs

Literally every day you will find a link or to BaseballReference.com or Fangraphs.com here, it's a given, and it's because these are the two most extensive free baseball databases that are easy to navigate. If you want to look up anything about baseball history, check Baseball Reference, if you want to look up how players stack up with non-proprietary advanced metrics or read an insightful blog post about why someone is overrated/underrated or overperforming/underperforming, check Fangraphs. With these two sites you have all the stats and figures you need to make a competent argument for basically anything you want with a little cherry picking.
A large part of the modern baseball world is statistics and you're going to find yourself getting more immersed in discussing the game if you can get a handle on all the terms getting thrown around. If you are brand new to baseball, take a little while to get to know the game before diving into these sites, but if you have a handle on the basics and are ready to know what this WAR everyone is talking about is, dive into the glossaries and find the statistics.
When you get the basics, creating your own analysis doesn't seem as daunting, and one of the reasons I love baseball is that I can deconstruct pretty much every play and find some meaning behind it. If you are like that and enjoy numbers, theoretical projections, and breaking things down into simple figures before reconstructing them into something long and beautiful, then learning the basics of sabrmetrics will make you a baseball fan for life. If, on the other hand, you just want to enjoy the game for the beautiful pastime that it is by watching, then we've got a little bit to go through...

Where to Watch? - Your TV and Streaming Guide

So a big part of baseball is, you know, actually being able to watch the games (though as I talk about at the end, it might not necessarily be the case for you, and that doesn't mean you can't enjoy baseball, skip down and see what I'm talking about in the final section).
First off, if you are looking for free games to watch, you are in luck! MLB.tv streams one game a day for free on MLB.com and Yahoo.com. These games are subject to local blackouts (details on those in the MLB.tv section) but are definitely worth watching if you're trying to see if you'll enjoy baseball, or just need a free baseball fix. Facebook is also streaming one game a week during the season for free. The other free games available are from May 18 to July 13 on Saturday night and Thursday nights in September when FOX airs games on their OTA affiliated networks. Believe it or not, TV antennas still work in most areas, and these games are free to watch. Some teams also broadcast select games on OTA networks in their region.
Okay, so now the more expensive stuff. If you have even the most basic cable package (or log in information) you probably have ESPN. ESPN airs games every Sunday Night as well as Wednesday Night and Opening Weekend. These games are also available on ESPN Go.
You also probably have a regional sports channel. This is where almost all of your local teams games will be aired. Here is a decent breakdown of every team and what network they are carried on.
TBS is also on even the most basic networks, they air games the final 13 Sundays of the regular season in the afternoon.
FS1 and FOX carry baseball games almost every Saturday of the season, and MLB Network carries games pretty much every day.
A list of currently scheduled national broadcasts is available here, not all games have been chosen so there will be more added to the list.
For all these networks (except for the Dodgers, Orioles, and Nationals regional networks) there are options to stream the games online provided you have cable login information for the channel. During the playoffs FS1, TBS, and MLB Network will carry most of the games, with ESPN carrying a wild card game and FOX carrying the World Series.
Now there are also streaming services that grant access to most of the previously mentioned channels:
  • Sling TV Orange package gets you ESPN, ESPN 2, and TBS.
  • Sling TV Blue package gets you FOX, FS1, FS2, TBS, and most regional sports networks.
  • Youtube TV gets you FOX, ESPN, ESPN 2, FS1, TBS, MLB Network, and some regional sports networks.
  • HULU Live gets you FOX, ESPN, ESPN 2, FS1, FS2, TBS, and your regional sports networks.
  • Playstation Vue Access gets you FOX, ESPN, ESPN 2, FS1, FS2, and TBS.
  • Playstation Vue Core adds MLB Network to the Access channels.
  • Playstation Vue Sports Extra adds regional sports networks in addition to your other channels.
  • AT&T TV Now Live a Little gets you FOX, ESPN, ESPN 2, FS1, and TBS and your regional sports networks.
  • AT&T TV Now Just Right adds MLB Network to the Live a Little channels.
  • AT&T TV Now Go Big adds FS2 to the Just Right channels.
  • FUBO Premier gets you FOX, FS1, and your regional sports networks
Also, ESPN+ will carry select games pretty much daily throughout the season.

MLB.TV - the Ultimate Fan Investment

Alright, so a few things to cover with this, first of all YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO LEGALLY STREAM IN MARKET GAMES IF YOU LIVE IN THE UNITED STATES. MLB.tv uses your IP address to see where you are located, and if it pings back that you are in a team's home market it will not let you watch the game LIVE. Here is where you can find what games MLB.tv will black you out from. National broadcasts on ESPN, FOX, and TBS are also subject to blackouts within the United States (MLB Network games are not). Before you ask, yes there are less than legal ways to get around this (spoofing your IP address, subreddit dedicated to mlb streams, etc.), but I won't be talking about those in detail here. IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA, YOU WILL HAVE NO BLACKOUTS.
Even if you are blacked out, you will be able to watch the game 90 minutes after it finishes, so if you work a late shift or stay up late it might be worth it for you anyways even if you only want to follow one team.
Military members and college students, don't forget to apply your 35% discount!
"But I don't want to watch EVERY out of market game, I just want to watch MY team!" Cool, for $25 less there's a single team option that will allow you to watch all your team's non-blacked out games! Personally, I'd pay the extra $25 for the opportunity to watch every Kershaw, Bumgarner, and Scherzer start, or put the Cubs on in the background while working on a Friday afternoon, but to each their own.
"But I don't want to commit for a full year!" That's okay, there's a monthly option as well in case you know there are months where you can't watch as much.
Some of the fun features of MLB.tv include the ability to watch four games at once and quickly swap your audio from one to another (seriously, I'm never on commercial break when I'm watching baseball, unless there's only one game on I'm able to watch it all, and in September that's huge) and condensed games. What are condensed games? They go through and cut out all the time between pitches and innings, meaning if you want to watch a whole game in less than a half hour (or are searching desperately for a play to make a .gif or streamable out of that for some reason isn't considered a highlight) it's really easy. If you're someone who really wants to get into the game but can't figure out how to grind through watching a full game, Condensed Games are great for keeping up with a team while you learn the little details between pitches that somehow make watching the catcher twiddle his fingers exciting for some fans.
Also, new this year, MLB has added some great baseball documentaries to your MLB.tv subscription, giving you access to more than just games for the first time.
In addition, there are two great resources to enhance your total immersion into baseball if there are multiple games going on. Please note for both of these you must already be logged into MLB.tv to make them work. The first, and most basic, is Brooks Baseball's MLB.TV Redzone. It will automatically take you to the highest leverage game going on, and will automatically shift you to another game between innings OR if another game enters a higher leverage situation. For a more personalized touch, The Baseball Guage has MLB.TV Game Changer which lets you customize your preferences so MLB.tv will always switch to the game that is most relevant to you. This is great if you play fantasy and want to keep up with your players, are waiting for someone to hit a milestone, or if you want to make sure your action is broken into to follow a no-hitter in progress.
It also gives you a free subscription to...

MLB AtBat - The Most Underrated Way to Stay Connected to Baseball

MLB AtBat is MLB's official application. It comes in two versions, the free version which has ads but is useful for keeping up to date with all the scores, and the paid version ($19.99 for the year of $2.99 monthly) which gives you access to ad-free content, Gameday on your mobile device, and (most valuable) access to every team's radio stream for every game during the season and postseason completely blackout free. If there's a day game, you can bet I'm listening to it at work, if I'm mowing the lawn on a Saturday I'm listening to a game, when I can't sleep at night, on comes a West Coast game. To get the paid version you must download the free version, then subscribe within the app, or log into an MLB account that has MLB.tv.
Baseball was made to be on the radio, it's a sport that is very easy to follow the action with the right announcer. At work (or school) it's great because you can half listen, and when the announcer gets excited you can instantly tune back in to hear what's going on. This is the most underrated way to stay connected to your team throughout the year. Before I could afford MLB.tv, this was the way to go, and it honestly makes me question every year whether getting the MLB.tv package is worth is when I can get 80% of the entertainment value from listening to the games (and every year I manage to forget to unsubscribe, for many reasons listed above).
Gameday on mobile is also a great feature, it lets you quickly check in on the action during brief recesses in meetings (or under the table during meetings), or breaks between classes (or under a desk in classes). This is honestly my primary means of keeping track of Twins games throughout the year. My wife thinks I'm crazy when I could just watch the game, but instead am nervously checking my phone every couple minutes. IF I WATCH I JINX THE TEAM, HONEY!

How to watch baseball?

So this is a question that we get from many new fans who are just trying to figure out what the hell is going on and why people find this game so fascinating. I'll get the elephant in the room out of the way, yes there are some "boring" parts of watching baseball on TV. The camera fans to a batter spitting and adjusting his gloves, the pitcher adjusts his crotch then licks his fingers, random shots of a bored looking manager, etc. When you are actually at the ballpark you can be watching where the catcher and fielders set up to try to predict the pitch that is coming (read The Hidden Language of Baseball by Paul Dickson for some great insight into how to interpret this), but on TV it's not usually the case. This is where I have some suggestions for new fans trying to get into it.
First off, if you are looking for just a relaxing day, embrace the slow pace with a beer and veg out on the couch while watching. It's meant to be slow and relaxing (until it gets tense and exciting, usually with runners on). Seriously, when was the last time you just sat and did nothing? Mid July afternoon games are a perfect way to reach that zen of half-consciousness, until something happens to get you sucked into the action.
Another option to stay engaged is keeping score. I find keeping score relaxing and looking back through a scorebook can be fun to see what you were doing a few years ago (except for that damn unfinished scorecard from 2015 where A-Rod hit the most predictable home run in Twins-Yankees history and I sent my scorecard flying to the other side of the room). As NPR once put it, keeping score is a knowledge making activity, and if you have the time and patience for it it is a great way to learn the game. There are a couple different guides to keeping score, and most scorebooks/cards will have a brief example of how to do so. If you have any questions, the Around the Horn thread is a great place to ask!
Gamethreads are another way to get together with other baseball fans and pass the time between pitches, especially in team subs you get to know the regulars and conversations start to wonder away from baseball at times throughout the game, and that's fine. Baseball is an excuse to enjoy a summer day.
For those that want to actually understand what is going on during that time, though, there are some options. Watching Baseball Smarter by Zack Hample (who despite his reputation on this subreddit knows some stuff and actually pops in from time to time to comment on different things) is a good starting place for new fans. Baseball for Dummies and The Complete Idiots Guide to Baseball are also good starting points for those willing to sit and read for a little bit.
For those who don't want to read a book, I guess I can touch on what I'm looking for between pitches. A big part of baseball is pitch selection, so scouting out a pitchers repertoire of pitches is a good starting point, BrooksBaseball.net has great cheat sheets on every pitcher in the game, and PitcherList.com has a visual example of each pitcher's pitches so you can see what you can be looking for. Anyways, I mention that because the whole reason the catcher is twiddling his fingers behind the plate is to go over with the pitcher what pitch is going to be thrown. What I'm watching for between pitches is where the catcher is setting up behind the plate and guessing which pitch is going to be thrown. A 2-0 and 3-1 count are known as hitters counts because the pitcher needs to throw a strike or risk walking the batter, when the count reaches either of those pay attention, because the hitters going to be looking for his perfect pitch and there's probably going to be some action on the field. 0-1, 0-2, and 1-2 are pitcher's counts, look for curveball, slider or other somewhat nasty pitch to be thrown to get the batter to swing at a bad pitch, or a fastball inside to catch them off guard. If you have any questions about this, go ahead and ask in an around the horn thread.

Where to watch highlights and game recaps.

There are many many places to see highlights and game recaps, this is not an exhaustive list, but is a good start.
For highlights, bigger highlights will often be posed here on baseball a few minutes after they occur, if you wish to post them please familiarize yourself with the subreddit rules. They also appear relatively quickly on MLB.com in each games Gameday area. For a pretty slick collection of highlights from across MLB, https://baseball.theate is a great place to exclusively watch highlights.
There are a few ways to get great game recaps. If you have MLB Network, every day Quick Pitch is an hour-long show that recaps every game from the previous day. It usually starts after MLB Tonight (about 10pm EDT) or whatever game MLB Network is showing finishes up, and runs until 10am EDT the next day. MLB.com also puts out recaps of every game by the next morning, usually a 2-5 minutes quick rundown of highlights that can be found on the game recap. It also puts out Fastcast videos on youtube and their website every morning which has a brief rundown of all the games from the previous day. Here's an example of a Fastcast from two seasons ago.
If you want one concise place to see most of these, efitz11 was amazing last season and posted video links to every game recap and fastcast in the daily Around the Horn thread. Here's an example. I am unsure if they plan to continue it this year, but it would be surely appreciated!

TL;DR Finding what you enjoy about the game.

When it boils down to it, baseball is about finding entertainment and enjoyment, and don't let anyone try to tell you how to enjoy baseball. If you want nothing to do with statistical analysis and just want to enjoy what's going on on the field, don't let anyone tell you you aren't enough of a fan, and if you want to dissect a player into their strengths and components using statcast and advanced metrics don't let anyone tell you you're reading into the game too much. You can follow one team, and only one team, or you can follow multiple teams, don't let anyone tell you you're not a true fan for wearing another team's gear or enjoying their games. You might enjoy bat flips and flamboyance, or reserved speedy home run trots. You might not even enjoy physically watching a game (especially not if your team isn't playing), but find yourself loving keeping track of your team through the season and tracking your players or maybe just the thrill of the standings race and scoreboard watching or maybe you just love all the numbers that get thrown around and arguing about their relevancy. That's okay, eventually I believe enjoyment of the game itself will come, but even if it doesn't, the long baseball season is still creating a place of enjoyment for you, and that's what matters. If you have any questions, once again, feel free to ask them in our daily Around the Horn thread, or below in the comments, or if you really want to feel free to PM with questions and I'd be happy to answer.
So watch games this week and join in the discussion here, you'll naturally find yourself gravitating towards certain players or teams and enjoying different aspects of the game. Baseball is a long season, find what you enjoy, stick to it, dwell on it, and enjoy it.
TL;DR for the TL;DR - Baseball is fun
